    Add External Subtitle to DVD

Is there a way to add an external subtitle (.srt) with DVD Copy ?
Using "Full Disc" or "Customize" .
    Staying in DVD format.
I want to keep the original menu.

I know there is an option for external subtitles using "Main Movie" .
I tested this & it didn't work either. That may have been DVDFab didn't like the .SRT file but it loaded it with no complaint. It just didn't add any subtitles with it.
I don't want just the "Main Movie" but tested it anyway. If there is a way with
"Full Disc" or "Customize" I would try to find another subtitle set. Even in a different file format.

I don't have the DVDFab Video converter.
However I don't believe it has the capability to do what I asked in my post.

To take a DVD compliant rip.
With .bup ,.ifo , & ,vob files in a VTS folder with original menu .
Add an external subtitle file such as a .srt to that for a selectable subtitle.

I believe what the converter may be able to do is convert the DVD compliant files to some other format such as .MKV . Add a subtitle to that.
The result would play on a computer but wouldn't have a menu .
Even if converted back to DVD compliant files the original menu is difficult to add & requires additional software.

Have you ever used DVDFab's video converter to do what I asked ?

          Hi Dora,
          Thanks for confirming this .
I had came to that conclusion.
I have updated to the newest version.

I first did a full disc rip that I removed all subtitles from.
I closed DVDFab & opened it again.
I added the no subtitles rip with Main Movie selected.
I then tested with several .srt subtitles I downloaded from the Internet.
          Also one I created myself.
I tested only one at a time .
          Using "Add External Subtitles".
DVDFab DVD Copy did not add any of these subtitles.

          Any ideas on why?
Or what I need to do to get an .srt file to work.

In case you wondering why I don't use the subtitles already on the original DVD.
I'm trying to find a method for someone I know that has a DVD that has no subtitles.
He can find subtitle downloads on the Internet for his DVD.
          He has DVDFab.

I'm trying to add an external subtitle using Main Movie.
            Maybe this will help.
            It is the dvdfab_internal.log .
I didn't post the two burn logs because I haven't burned a DVD that I've tried to add an external subtitle to.
            DVDFab hasn't crashed so there isn't a dvdfab_process.log.

            For other information.
I've tried this on 3 different movies .
So I think that would be the same on any movie.
I'm not using any external drives for this.
No recent changes in hardware or software.

When DVDFab finished I even get a message:
            "Process completed successfully!
! Perfect backup! Want a perfect playback?
            Get DVDFab Media Player"

To me that indicates DVDFab thought it did the copy perfectly.
Except it didn't add the subtitle.

If I can provide some other information: Please ask.

To DVDFab staff: Is there a DVD movie you can suggest where you have tested & were able to add an external subtitle to the movie.

              This is what I tried:
              1. Ripped the DVD using Customize .
In this step I removed all subtitles .
This was to make sure the one I attempted to add is the only subtitle.

              2. Using Main Movie with the Customize rip as the source .
I added an external subtitle .
I've tried with several I was able to download from the Internet as well as a couple I created myself from the Full Disc.
I haven't been able to get DVDFab DVD Copy Main Movie to add any of these to a movie.

              3. I've tried this with 3 different movies.

If you could suggest a movie that you know this works with.
Preferably one that has subtitle downloads available on the Internet.
I will see if I can get that movie & try it .
If you can suggest more than one movie that you have tested that would be helpful. As it would give me a selection on one I might like.

DVD copy does not support add external subtitle.
Add external subtitle option will be disable in DVD Main movie.

cholla, if you have the creator module you can make an MKV passthrough (no loss) and add the subs to that, then use creator to make a DVD with subtitles - viola!
How to post the internal log

                    Hi Dora,
Why didn't you post this in post #4 ?

Sorry , fulldisc and customize do not support add external subtitle for now.
This lead me to believe that Main Movie did support external subtitle.

                    My next questions are:
                    1. Why is the " Add External Subtitles" option available in the drop down for subtitles when using DVD Copy Main Movie ?
This option isn't available in Full Disc or Customize.

                    2. Why can an external subtitle file be added here in DVD Copy Main Movie ?

                    3.It shows as accepted here:

                    4. When DVD Copy is finished it shows this:
How can the process be completed successfully with an added External Subtitle ?
DVD Copy just doesn't add the external subtitle but that isn't successful when the subtitle appeared to able to have been added.

If an external subtitle can't be added to Main Movie then the subtitle pulldown shouldn't be available . Like it is not in Full Disc or Customize.

                      Thanks for replying 90312,

                      I don't have DVDFab's DVD Creator .

I didn't want to make an .mkv even though they are lossless in quality.
I saw another software suggested for doing this with an .mkv.
I think both eliminate the original menu.

I was trying to tell someone with DVDFab how to do this with DVD Copy .
Even if only Main Movie could be used.

I found a way to do this with software I have but it would seem complicated to some people . What is good about it is the original menu is kept .

                      Code:
It will use PGCDemux program which you need to download.
                      Then Muxman & VobBlanker.
                      SubtitleCreator: https://sourceforge.net/projects/subtitlecreator/

                      PGCDemux: https://www.videohelp.com/download/PgcDemux_1205_exe.zip

                      Muxman: https://www.videohelp.com/download/muxman_0_16_8.zip

                      VobBlanker: https://www.videohelp.com/download/VobBlanker_2130_exe.zip

These seem like a lot but are small programs & portable.
SubtitleCreator automates their use with its' Wizard.
You still need to enter the DVD .ifo & subtitle set .

Download a subtitle set from a website.

Start with selecting None for the subtitles in DVDFab DVD Copy.
                      Customize. Rip to a folder.

In SubtitleCreator open the subtitle set.
                      Then open the movie folder.
With arrow in lower left of video screen.
It will be the VIDEO_TS.IFO that is opened.

Let the Menu load & then select Play.
When the movie starts select Pause.

Select Set subtitle colors and position.
If they look OK. They usually will as this is what the downloaded
subtitle set will have in its' code.
                      Select Sychronize DVD.
Listen & find a line in the subtitles to match audio.
Select one match near the start of the movie.
Some movies require several to get a good sync.
Just start at the beginning & select a sub about every 15 minutes.
Pause at that position & Select the Sychronize button.
Let play & see if the subtitles match the audio.
If they do your now ready to author the DVD.
                      Select File pulldown
                      Save SRT

Setect Tools / DVD Authorizing Wizard
Open the DVD in the Wizard.
It will choose the same directory as the movie.
I prefer a new folder so I created one & selected it for the output.
Use the Tools pulldown & select the wizard again.(or CTRL+W)
Uncheck:Extract original SUP files from DVD (For synchronization)
                      Uncheck:Auto-play DVD
Set subtitle track to 1 & language to the one that matches your subtitle set.
Add the saved .SRT . This will be where the original .srt was.
It is replaced when you "Save SRT" with the new one you created.
Select "Create SUP and return to wizard".
                      Select Start .

The first time it will ask the location of PGCDemux ,Muxman ,& VobBlanker.
Windows will also ask permission & if you want these programs to run more
automatically you need to uncheck the ask each time in the windows warning box.

Delete the SC_TEMP folder or folders from you movie folder.
Then burn with you DVD burning software of choice.
                      This can be DVDFab .

                      Hints:
Pause & select the green circular arrow to the right after highlighting a subtitle.
This should go to where that subtitle should be in the movie.
Sometimes it doesn't . If that's what happens you need to sync more subtitles.

                          Hi CBR929 ,
Thanks for giving it a try .

I have done a lot with videos & usually if a software can do something I can figure it out.
One thing has been good about this experience.
I learned to create subtitles from a DVD that has them.
Meaning I can create a .sup file & from it a .srt file.
I need to do it a few more times before I'm good at it.

                              Thanks for trying Dora.
The option should be removed from DVD Copy.

For me I already figured out a better method with other software that I posted
                              in post #11.
The problem is getting someone to use the more complicated method.
Then teaching them to do it with good results.

If either you or CBR929 want to try something interesting .
Try splitting a DVD with DVD Copy & then putting it back together with DVD Copy Merge.
With the original menu & the special features working correctly.
Actually Merge can't do that. Unless it has changed.

I've done it but you have to use several other softwares to do it .
PGCEdit being the most difficult to learn that has to be used .
