    task_2 failed! Error=123

    Hello,

I get this error message when I try to copy a DVD (home movies) that I made in the past.

The DVD is not full (I only filled up half the DVD with video).

    I am running DVDFab 8.0.5.0 (18/11/2010).

Can anyone help? I get the error message task_2 failed! Error=123 very near the end of the burn process.

    Why use Fab?
The dvds are not encrypted and probably are not structurally compliant with dvd standards.
Suggest you just burn a new disc with Img.

Anyway, the disc did not finalize properly, ie., the session was not closed.
You'll need to force finalization with VSO, Img or a utlitiy such as nero cd-dvd speed.

    For VSO:

Right click on the Fab Icon >
    Left click Properties >
    Left click Find Target >
    Left click PcSetup.exe >
Left click on the + in front of Patin-Couffin driver >
Now left click once to select your burner >
Right click on the selected burner >
Navigate to the bottom of the dropdown to Finalize the media

It looks complicated, but will take less than a minute.

For Img or nero, just select finalze from the dropdowns.

If you're having problems with the blank media in general, perhaps a firmware update will resolve this.
For more specific help, please post the burn log.

    The default location is:

    For Win7
    C:\Users\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log
    or for XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I tried to burn the movie "Selena" using the DVDFab 8.0.5.0 and got this error message:

      Task_2 failed! Error=122

It only got 1.53% the way through.

Is there a way I can do a "test burn" without actually burning the DVD-R? I don't feel like wasting this many blanks (I already went through 4 blanks).

        Hi ef9,

        1) Please understand that this error (Task_2 failed! Error=122) may be caused by compatibility problems--the blank media is poorly supported by your DVD drive.

        2) From my point of view, there is no way to do a "test burn" without actually burning the DVD disc.

My suggestion is to try using a variety of different brands/speeds media. Well-known brands like Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim will be better. Please keep away of Memorex media, some of which are of poor quality. Try different format media like DVD+/-R/RW if your DVD writer supports.

        Best regards,

You've posted two entirely different problems and never returned to the first one.
Please stick with one issue per post.
Does this mean your first problem has been resolved???

          As I said,

As Anny said, this is probably a media problem, most likely poor quality, maybe poor firmware support, inappropriate burn speed, etc., etc...

It's all guesswork without the logs.

Both problems have not been fixed. I am too afraid to burn more, as I am wasting DVD-R media.

My old computer never gave me problems, now that I have a new one, I'm not sure what is wrong.

Is DVD Fab compatible with 64 bit Vista? That is the only thing different between the new and old.

Is DVD Fab compatible with 64 bit Vista? That is the only thing different between the new and old.
                  Hi ef9,

                  1) Please understand that the current DVDFab products can work on
                  Windows 7/Vista/XP(32-bit/64-bit).

                  2) The difference between windows xp and windows vista is that you need to login your computer as administrator to install and register DVDFab on vista.

                  Best regards,
                  Anny

My user id in Vista, has admin privileges.

I don't think I have to actually login as the administrator to the PC right?

                      Hi ef9,

Please try the following steps to see if the problem can be fixed:

                      1) Upgrade to the latest version of DVDFab 8.0.5.6 at http://www.dvdfab.com/download.htm;

                      2) Check your writer manufacturers site for a list of recommended media to use and also check if there are any firmware updates available for your Writer;

                      3) Please click the round green icon button with a check mark at the right top corner of the DVDFab screen, open "Common Settings" window, click on "write", slow down the burning speed (such as 4.x).

                      Best regards,
                      Anny

                        Hi ef9

The media you are using is considered some of the worst garbage out there, and your drive knows it and doesn't like them Sorry

122 HWS_FAILED_CALIBRATING 22 // Write failed at the beginning of the media (often a media that is poorly supported by the drive)

Consider picking up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim "with the AZO dye" on the label for your burning.

Also if you want to try and salvage the disc's you have I think the only way to do this is with ImgBurn...it is "free" ....you will find it here along with a tutorial on setting it up with Fab http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=33 remember to set up AWS in ImgBurn

As Anny suggested your drive does have a firmware update you will find it here http://www.firmwarehq.com/download_1..._X152.zip.html
NOTE: If you do not know how to flash your drive do not do it, it will render your drive useless.
Give this a try and post back
