Need More SPEED!!

I'm ripping some Blu-rays and they are taking forever!!
I would like to know what are the best setting, but still maintaining quality.
Ripping to a 25gb iso.

System:
Dual 6 core Xeon's overclocked to 3.5ghz. Total 12 cores and 24 threads
12 gigs of ram
C drive is SSD - System
D drive is Pioneer 206 burner
E drive is SSD - DVDfab temp folder
F drive is SSD - iso folder
Video card - GTX 275

Currently ripping a disc at 2.01 MB/s
My CPU Usage goes from 0% to 18%. Up and down like a roller coaster.
My GPU Usage goes from 0% to 25%. Up and down like a roller coaster.

It is going to take 5:30 to complete this disc.
What settings or hardware upgrades could cut this time way down?
I just want to max out my CPU Usage because then I will know things are getting done!!

GKANAKIS, your set-up is impressive at that! I'm just running i5 2500K OC cpu and Evga Geforce GTX 460 OC video card, and 2x 1TB HHD's. 8 gigs ram (1600) consair vengence!

Burnning Blu-rays to my HHD, I haven't had a Bluray yet that was over 30min's!

With your set-up, way don't you try a better vedio card? I'm just guessing, I built my frist rig about 6 months ago, but I read the forum for about 4 years and put together what I thought would be a good build from what all the great MOD's were saying!

I do Blu-ray to HHD BD50, then I do movie only 25GB, with Imburn!(dvdfab), but I'm no expert at all, and I don't even have my rig OC'ed! Mybe that would help, but it sounds like you need a better vedio card! :)

I use CUDA and CUDA & Software on the drop down list, these were my settings that work great for me!

what really will help with your speed is if you copy your content to HDD first, without any compression - BD50, and then use it as source.
It seems your optical drive creates the roller coaster-like behavior. It kills your optical drive too...

Ya, that's what I got from the post from 8855A.

Just transferred a disc to my HHD and decoding now.

Still slow though. CPU load will only go to 33%. I'm guessing DVDFab has a 4 core limit on decoding/encoding.

Another question..
When you transfer off your disc in full format, 50gb, do you put it in a iso format or files? I'm using iso and I'm thinking that what slowing me down.

No, DVDFab doesn't have that limitation. Do you have any kind of gadget to monitor load on each core?

It shouldn't make much of a difference. However, to read from iso you have to use drive emulator, and it's just another step...

Yes, I use Task Manager. It shows all 24 threads.

In addition to the excellent advice from my pals, IPopov50 and 88,
please disable all GPU acceleration.
Also check that Lightning-recoding is disabled. This causes more trouble than it's worth...JMO.

Select software only for both video encoder and decoder (all entries) and give it another shot.
With such a robust cpu, you should be screaming...regardless.
You can fine-tune later on.

Keep in mind that GPU acceleration and Fab is a work-in-progress and your mileage may vary.

Depending on your results, you might also consider running a non-Qt version since quite a few systems seem to run sluggish and/or glitchy with Qt's.
Version 8085 is still available for download.
This will install in a separate and distinct folder and run independently of the Qt versions

If the F: and I: drives are on the same controller or same channel, it will run more slowly. I have a low-end, dated video card (GT-230M) and I get the best speed (for DVDs) with all GPU off but with Lightning Recoding on. Better speed with BDs with encode set to Software+CUDA, and running from a hard drive on the SATA controller to a hard drive on the USB controller.

All bets are off with BDs that are VC-1 or the older MPEG-2 titles, they are generally slower under all conditions for me.

Same here with VC-1, slow no matter what...

The only saving grace is if they're single layer BD's to start with.

I have found an option in the settings menu that no one has mentioned in any of the posts I have read to date. It's found under DVD / Blu-ray Ripper > Convert. The option is Enable "Turbo CPU" for maximum cpu usage.
I have this option enabled and get 100% CPU usage and some very good conversion times (usually around 1 - 1.5 hours for BD). My other settings I use and am getting great results are GPU off and lightning recode on.
It seems strange to me you are getting so little cpu usage and am sure if you can overcome this issue you will get even better results with a muscle rig like yours. My setup is I5 750 win 7 64bit 12GIG ram and AMD HD6870OC and Noctua NH-C12P SE14 cooler

A word of warning however > I would keep an eye on your temps if you are OC'd cause I'm on 100% cpu for pretty much the entire conversion.

Just an update on my previous post > I realized that I may not have been comparing apples with apples as my conversions are usually to MKV and thats what I was basing my times on. So saying I set up an identical situation as shown in your screen shots and first attempt FAILED as soon as Lightning recode kicked in. OK disabled that and 2nd attempt yielded results (see attachment) Conversion currently sitting at 12,3% ETA )1:50:00 and elapsed 00:20:00. Round trip looks like coming in under 2.5hrs

Sorry to hog the floor guys but I just had another thought GK > You mention that your rig is OC'd in your original post. Well I would like to suggest to you that you save your OC in bios and set your rig back to failsafe defaults and give it another go. I really can't see that this is a software issue but rather I am thinking hardware related. Someone mentioned upgrading you GPU but logic says to me that if you are not using GPU acceleration then this is not an issue. A rig like yours should really be kicking some serious ass buddy.Oh an update on the test I am running > round trip looks like 1.5hrs (see attached)

I just did a little test here, on my machine to see if my results were any better than yours. I think they might well be.

Test Movie is Kingdom of Heaven a 36GB movie on a BD50.

The screens say it all! I posted the GPU usage in one of them. Why your's doesn't do as well as mine is strange. I have no over clocking at all.

Are you using a windows swap file? After your have installed 8 or more gigs for RAM the swap file is not going to help your performance. Turning it off will save disc space on your SSD and force all your drivers to stay in memory so they access very fast. I have disabled the swap file on all my machines as well as hibernate.
