Anyone know the best brand or player to get to play the cinivia recorded movies. I have all PS3's and they are above the 4.10 downloads. So I am considering getting a regular blu ray player but dont want to run into the same problem. Any advice would be appreciated!

Well, not Sony. Until recently they were almost the only ones that were infected, but that is no longer the case. Read through the Cinavia threads in this forum and the one called "Decryption Updates" for some ideas on players.

I'd say the absolute BEST are the media players like Dune and AIOS. You would never have to worry about Cinavia with those.

Ramrod, I have a Magnavox Blu-Ray player. I know it isn't the best manufacturer, but I have had no issues with anything I have backed up to watch on my HD TV's. The Blu-Ray player cost like $89.00 at the Blu**Mart store and frankly the best $89.00 I ever spent. I hear all kinds of issues about various manufacturers, specifically Sony... and I love Sony. All my bigscreens are Sony, and my regular DVD players as well.....

(that was sarcasm) From this site - "The bad news is Cinavia technology from Verance Corporation will become mandatory for all Blu-ray Disc players as of February 1, 2012." So am I wrong in reading that to mean that each and every BR player BUILT from that date and beyond is required by law to have the cinavia infection? Well, I don't believe it. What law and in which country? There have to be hundreds of new models and the list on this site is actually quite small. Seems the date came and went doesn't it!

In other words, internal blu-ray players made for computers are currently exempt from such mandates. That's not to say they won't be in the future, though.

Anybody experience "cheap" made in China players? I would assume they are not likely to be ever affected by Cinavia, and probably Region-free as a bonus?

And when you consider it's only $89 US (even without the rebate)...not too shabby. @bergman, Did yours come with the new remote or the old crappy one. The remote is really my only complaint. PIVOS offered a $10 upgrade in June, but their stock was quickly depleted. Maybe I'll give it another shot

Crap! It looks like the new 3.4.3.0 beta has the same audio driver (360747) as semiofficial firmware R18 & R21. I guess I'm going to have to hold out until they can fix the audio dropout problem in a future firmware.

Side-by-side(SBS) is a 3D format that splits the screen with almost identical frames. The 3D TV will then take the 2 frames and overlay them as one on the TV resulting in the 3D image. Major movie releases use a different format other than SBS for Blu-ray discs. Either format looks great on a 3D TV an I cannot tell the difference. I have an Argosy media player and it will play SBS(side-by-side) but I have not been successful playing 3D by just copying a disc and putting it on the media player. I read somewhere that the player needs at least a Realtek 1186 processor for this purpose but I am not sure. The Argosy has a Realtek 1185 and I believe the Pivos has the same processor. I have been looking at the Micca EP950 which uses the Realtek 1186 but it sells for $169.95. Maybe somebody on this forum has used the Micca.

You need Blu-ray Copy to break the movie's encryption and copy it to your hard drive and/or burn it to a blank disc.

You need Blu-ray Ripper to rip that copied Blu-ray movie that is already on your hard drive to something like MKV, MP4 or some other portable format that is compatible with a mobile device, tablet or a media player.

Not meaning to give you a hard time, but the term "best" has too many variables, not the least of which is the "viewer's" opinion of how it looks and on what.

Having said that, my personal favorite for BDs is the mkv.h264.audiocopy profile.
I generally maintain a kbps of about 15,000.
This gives me great video for action flicks with no discernible difference between the mkv and the uncompressed BD folder or BD .ISO when viewed on my 42" HDTV

It also essentially doubles my hd storage or even a bit more
The mkv files are ~ 1/2 of the original size.

True Grit went from ~27 GB (main movie) to ~12 GB while preserving HD audio.

I haven't found anything that my AIOS won't play.
I've had it for over a year now and just bought one for my daughter for Christmas

I use Thumbgen and also YAMJ but your player needs to support it.
