I have three blue ray drives and they all do the same exact thing. Pioneer BDR-2208, BDR-207 both SATA and my Samsung SE-506AB. No matter what disc I am reading...no matter what drive reads it...they just stop. I took a couple of screen shots. Once the read speed drops to 0, the program no longer shows it....just the % read. It will sit there for an hour if I let it. Can't seem to read anything that requires decrypting or shrinking. Turned off CUDA and same result. New Nvidia drivers 310.61/64. No joy and no success with version 8.2.2.2 either.... What can it be???? Windows 8

That's the odd part...when I go into Users\Username\My Documents\DVDFab\Log... There is NOTHING in there. No log, nothing....I don't get any of this. It starts to read the disc normally and then stops at 11.64%. Read speed drops to 0 and nothing else happens. No log, no errors, nothing BTW...I am running Intel Rapid Storage drivers 11.6 (the latest). My OS drive is a Samsung 830 SSD, and my D drive is a 1 TB 7200 rpm Hitachi. In the program setup, I created temp directories on the D drive for DVDFab to cache it's files...but still should have no bearing. The program worked for years on Windows 7...but somehow...not on 8.

OK...I started a copy straight to my hard drive and it still locks at 11.61%. I can never rip (when having to shrink down the size)...Cars, for example is 27GB and has to shrink down to 22GB to fit a BD25. It works normally until 11.61%, then the read speed drops to 0 and the program just sits there. I have to cancel and finish...nothing ever gets done...whether 9.0.1.1 or 8.2.2.2, same for both. There is obviously something going on. Read the log that it created and see nothing...maybe you can...DVDFab is totally unusable on my system with Windows 8...

Can you clone a disk to a folder or an ISO without problem? Looking at your log file shows me it is still trying to use your GPU for encoding. Also make sure you have plenty of disk space where you have set DVDFAB to use as temp.

The problem I have is that I can't get DVDFab to read any disc past 11.61%. I will disable GPU and go with straight software, which I have tried with no success. Let me see if it will generate a new log... OK...this is what I get when I disable CUDA and keep everything strictly software. I did an upgrade to Windows 8, and everything works fine...except DVDFab and Nero Discspeed, which now only recognizes one of my drive, not both Pioneers...odd stuff... I have filled out about 5-6 of these error reports and sent. Even emailed tech support...no joy!

Not that it has anything to do with Blu Ray Copy, but I was able to copy a DVD, successfully. Must be something to do with 9.0.1.1 and it's BR ability. Odd thing...8.2.1.8 functioned normally on Windows 8 until I installed v9. Did 9 break 8?

Please don't wait for hours at the same percentage. If the number doesn't advance at all after 10-15 minutes, there's a problem.

OK, so I let it go for just over an hour...had other things to do and forgot it was still going. When I came back....was still stuck in the same place. The ability to do a DVD tells me that maybe there is an issue with the Blu Ray copy part. The first time I used it, I was able to get the read part to 100% and nothing happened after that. Then, since, I can't get past 11.61%. Something very problematic here. As I stated earlier...I was using 8.2.1.8 fine, even in Windows 8, until I installed 9. Now both don't work right...for BD

This is starting to sound like a pooched install to me. Try uninstalling both versions and running ccleaner on the registry until it doesn't find any errors. It took four times on my W8 machine.

Reinstalled only 9.0.1.1 and tried to copy Cars again. Read speed was actually up to close to 12mb/s which was a big improvement...things moved along and stalled at 11.77% and then just sat there. Cancelled and going back to the drawing board... OK...here we go...look at the captures. IF the Blu Ray is smaller than BD25, then it copies. It's when the program has to compress the files down to fit BD25. Could the setting for BD25 be off in some way? I have been able to shrink down DVD's that are HUGE down to DVD5...example "The Green Mile" which movie only is 9 GB...shrinks down with 9.0.1.2 perfectly. I get the difference between DVD and Blu Ray...but something isn't translating in my system to shrink them...

Any thoughts?

I may have misled you a bit, I'm using W7x64 for BR discs. My laptop is W8 no Blu-Ray drive installed and I'm just not fond enough of W8 to change my main desktop to it. Sorry if I led you down the wrong path :o I should have read your posts more closely.

No harm! I wasn't too "sure" about Windows 8 until I installed it. Because I built my new system in the summer...I got the upgrade for $15, so why not try it. I actually like a lot of it. Runs well...less memory intensive. Granted, I have 16 GB of memory...so in Win 7, bootup showed 12% memory used. On bootup in Win 8, I see 8%. It seems to utilize memory a bit better. Performance wise...not a major difference either way. The ONLY app that has issues, believe it or not, is DVDFab. For email, I have always been a big Eudora fan. Still using 7.1.0.9 from 2005, and it works well in Win 8. I even have a music scheduling program for radio stations (my job-consulting and looking over what some stations play)...and it is DOS based...works great. I just don't get the problem with Blu Ray copy (when the BR is greater in size and has to be shrunk to fit)...DVD works fine...Ugh!

Anny emails me from tech support...I am hopeful that I can get her to read this thread...with all the logs and screen shots...hopefully it will help. I finally figured out why my logs were disappearing...Ccleaner was deleting them. So I had to go into configuration and tell it to leave DVDFab alone...

I hope this can get resolved...I know there are others like me out there...

Have you tried uninstalling your drives, restarting your computer and let windows reinstall the drivers, or even leaving just 1 drive connected with no cables attached to the others?

Also what do you have for a power supply?
You say you can copy a disc to your HDD as BD-50, but the compressing the disc is failing, maybe you do not have enough power is something I guessing.

I have a Corsair HX850 and have had for about a year and a half now. The problem isn't with the drives...I can copy to the HDD with no problems in BD50 mode. My main OS drive, where DVDFab caches and resides is a Samsung 830 series 256 GB SSD with 200 GB free. Before switching over to Windows 8, older versions of DVDFab worked fine...now, no! My secondary HDD is a 7200 rpm Hitachi with 32 MB of Cache. I don't really think my hardware is the problem. I think that there is something with the way DVDFab works and Windows 8.

I ripped a BR full disk and shuttled it over to the Windows 8 laptop and am compressing it now. It's up to 17% and humming along at a snail's pace, its a 1.6GHz dual core so this going to take an age to complete, if it does? I'll let you know.

17%...wow...that's further than I think I have yet to make it. I will be interested to see what happens. As I said...99.9% of all my programs/games work in Windows 8. Seems that DVDFab is the ONLY ONE...that is having trouble. DVD Copy works well...Blu Ray...no good! Fingers crossed that maybe it's something I am doing...but the settings are the same I have always used...

Is Anny in technical support for real? I received this email from her after pleading with her to read the thread. I have sent her numerous logs, via copy / paste, since there is no way to directly email her. Now, after four days, she sends this:

Dear Bob,

When backing up your Blu-ray movies, we suggest you click the little thing at the top that looks like a gear in order to open Common Settings->General->A/V Codec, set video decoder as software and set video encoder as software, then copy your Blu-ray movies to see the result.

If you don't want to enable GPU decoding/encoding, please just tick the "Disable all GPU codecs for decoding and encoding" check box.

If you still meet some issues, please send us your latest log files of DVDFab9. Thanks in advance.

This joke is on me, right? Five pages of logs and a fabcore error from Windows 7 and I get that response. It is obvious that you are the only one trying to figure this out. I thank you for that. Let me know your findings...I obviously have some issues...that I "think" might be contributing..

1. AHCI drivers. Perhaps they are handled differently in Windows 8 than 7. However, even in Windows 7, why did 9.0.1.1 have a fabcore crash? See page three of the thread and you will see that in Windows 7, I received an error message when the program just ceased to work.
2. The Ivy Bridge chipset. Although, I have been using earlier versions of v8 on this chipset since April of this year. I can restore from an earlier backup and do a full BD Copy using version 8.0.1.3 (I believe, may even be older than that...from August). Even when I installed v9 on that 7 backup, I got the fabcore crash. There has to be some conflicting driver, piece of software that interferes with the ability of DVDFab to shrink the files.

Guessing now...

Installed DVDFab 9.0.1.2 on my HP Envy Laptop. Quad core Sandy bridge processor 2.4 GHZ, 8 GB of DDR3-1333 SDRAM. Same end result as with my desktop...read stopped at 9.98 %, drops to 0, task time left 0. Only thing that both my machines have in common is the Inrel AHCI drivers v 11.2. Laptop has an AMD 6850 video card, so no CUDA. Set DVDFab to total software and Imgburn as burning engine, Here is the log:

We are tyring to repro your problem now on Xp, Win7 and Win8. Some of testings are done but can't repro. We are thinking of different ways. Each sub-forum is focused by QA team staff, Blu-ray Copy as well. We have no reply your post since no result now, but not do nothing. Hope we will repro and resolve this problem soon.

One last thought. There is one other common thing between the desktop and laptop. Bitdefender Internet Security 2013. However, I am not sure that it could cause the issue where DVDFab won't compress. Going to test that right now and post back

My test completed successfully sometime during the night watching it now on the media player. So I think it's not Windows 8 and DVDFab or not just Windows 8 and DVDFab. I think it's something unique to your system configuration and I hope you find it.

Intel Management Engine Interface (required for both Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge processors), Intel Rapid Storage Manager (required for AHCI), Bitdefender Internet Security 2013, and a handful of other drivers. Other than that...Desktop-Nvidia GeForce drivers, where laptop is AMD. In both cases...program won't copy Blu Ray...but good with DVD...strangest thing. I appreciate all your help and guidance. Hopefully I can get this figured out. Question...is there a difference in some slight way between v8.0.0.1 and 8.2.2.2? 8.0.0.1 was the last working version of DVDFab that successfully copied BR on my desktop in Windows 7...

Tested Cars (Volume Label: 18020466_CARS_USA) with 12 computers again, lucky one of them repro a fabcore crash problem.
But I'm not sure wether it is your problem since the fabcore crash problem we only happen once! And do the same case, cannot repro again.

My case is:
DVDfab 9012,
ENV - Core i5 2400, Z68 Sandy Bridge GT1, 4G memory,
Steps - Full Disc, 50GB to 25GB, Decoder and Encoder - Intel Quick Sync, Enable Lighting Recoding.

When compressing the 00045.m2ts, fabcore crashs.
I though it looks like a another problem, becauce 00045.m2ts contains Mpeg-2 stream and is not separated form Mpeg-4. Normally Mpeg-2 and Mpeg -4 stream should NOT be in the same group, but if they are, fab cannot distinguish them, and using the same H264 encoding code, that will cause of fab freeze or crash when compressing. But this should only repro in Full Disc mode, not Main Movie. Testing more.

bobmitch, I have a similar system to you, i7-3770K, DH77KC mobo, 16GB ram and a Pioneer BDR-207D, Win 8 x64. I've had issues with Windows 8 but not DVDFab 8.

I assume all firmware, Bios and system drivers are up to date?

Have you tried using Quick Sync?

Yeah...all up to date...

Tech support wants me to do a reinstall of Win 8. What's odd...99.99% of everything I have works with no problems. I can copy DVD...no problem...Only Blu Ray. Right now, DVDFab Blu Ray copy fails on my laptop too. Only thing I can think of is Bitdefender...which I am gonna remove later and see what happens. Other than that...I can't re-do both machines...since they are both business and other...way too much to lose, or risk. I just may bite the bullet and not make backups of my Blu Ray...

As I said...I still have a few alternatives. I remember having issues with Nero Burning ROM not working because of Kaspersky Internet Security...If it were Bitdefender, I wouldn't be shocked...

Have you tried Quick Sync instead of CUDA?

Check this out. I put DVDFab and all the directories that it uses on the Bitdefender exception list...tried a copy and fail. Then...just removed Bitdefender Internet Security from my system...and the copy is working. I have copied over 50% of Cars, thus far and it is still going....had something to do with Bitdefender. So for Nero...can't use Kaspersky. With DVDFab, can't use Bitdefender...but at least I get an idea that all can be OK. My ISP gives me Zone Alarm Internet Security...guess I'll be going the free route next...
