Unfortunately, nvidia has chosen with recent drivers not to support the CUDA video encoding function on their GPUs with CUDA capability below 3.0 (see this for a list) Nvidia drivers now support only their new NVENC technology, which much hardware does not support. [/SIZE][/FONT][SIZE=3]This makes the situation apply to many DVDFab users. To regain some of the CUDA advantage, DVDFab now (v9.1.6.3 and later) supports CUDA for decoding and the new NVENC for encoding using the latest nvidia driver (340.52 as this is written) on devices with CUDA capability of 3.0 or higher. Whether this is the optimum solution for you depends on how you use DVDFab, as explained below.[/SIZE] [SIZE=3]Other Aspects[/SIZE] [SIZE=3]The instability issues with the 337.88 and 340.52 drivers have been overcome for DVDFab versions of 9.1.6.3 and later, so if your nvidia device has a CUDA capability of 3.0 or better (see list linked below), you can use these drivers now, but should choose between them carefully depending on usage pattern: for Full Disc with compression in Blu-ray Copy, you will get better performance in most cases using the 337.88 or earlier driver with CUDA decode and encode. For Main Movie compression or tasks using the Ripper or Converter modules, use the newer 340.52 driver and CUDA decode with NVENC encoding, which is now fully supported by DVDFab for these (3.0-5.0 CUDA cap) devices. It is a shortcoming in the driver itself (a weakness in handling the many small m2ts files common in Full Disc mode) not in DVDFab that is the basis for this recommendation. [/SIZE] [SIZE=3]Earlier nvidia Devices[/SIZE] [SIZE=3]What about the legacy (non-Kepler) devices that many of us still have? DVDFab has not forgotten. If your device has CUDA capability below 3.0, the 340.52 driver does not support encoding on your device and you must choose to use the new (340.52) driver with decoding only (will be slower) or the older (337.88 or prior) driver to continue using CUDA for decode and encode. [/SIZE] [SIZE=3]Alternatives/Workarounds[/SIZE] [SIZE=3]You may wish to consider using Intel QuickSync (IQS) if your CPU and motherboard chipset support it. Thank you for the update signals. I'm using a GTX 660 and have rolled back to the 335.23 driver until this issue is resolved.

Thank you for update status. I did'nt have an integrated GPU in my Intel Core i7 2,4Ghz Notebook. Only the dedicated Geforce GTX780M. Without support of Geforce Encoding, still, the Encoding time increase from 20-25 Minutes up to now to 40-60 Minutes. In the Same optical Quality. I've rolled back to the Geforce 335.23 Drivers to use GPU Encoding, but many games needed newer Geforce Drivers. I hope this issue will the fixed as soon as possible.

Thanks for this should include Wilson.Wang of the QA Team in Beijing, it was his idea, and a good one, this subject needed a detailed explanation. I hope it is all fixed soon as well, but it is complicated to some degree by the presence of a 3rd party (nvidia). Don't overlook the option to use the 340.52 driver if you need it for gaming, you can use it for the decode part of video compression, which may still produce pretty good times if you have an i7 (and good fans) :).

I would like to know if Wilson Wang or any of the DVDFab team might be able to give us an estimate as to how long it will take to resolve this issue so that full Cuda functionality will work with the new NVIDIA drivers.

You have got to be kidding. "How long is a piece of string?" comes to mind. It'll be ready when it's ready!!

It is ready now, please install v9.1.6.2. Beta and the 340.52 driver and post the results here, feedback is needed. Devices below CUDA capability 3.0 are not supported yet.

i installed dvdfab 9.1.6.2 beta and ripped a few dvds. It works very well !!!:). Can someone Test it with Bluray Ripping ? Have no time, go to work. At this point, very goog work.Thanks very much. ;)

DVDFab 9.1.6.1 gave me a few errors and made it crash everytime especially when ripping directly from disc + when CUDA was selected. Worked okay with Intel Quick Sync. DVDFab 9.1.6.2 works perfectly well...and no issues replicated. WELDONE DVDFAB TEAM. GREAT JOB!!!

Thanks for the feedback so far, I think a few more reports would be appreciated by the developers, especially if you experienced any problems.

Cuda a lot faster for me now with V9.1.6.2 With all setting to CUDA V9.1.6.2 is a lot faster for me now. Great improvement from V9.1.6.1 on my system. Good job team fab.

Installed 9.1.6.3 and CUDA 340.52 drivers. Went to verify that CUDA Lightning Shrink could be selected and it could not.

When I selected CUDA encoding I was told that the card was not supported.

So, CUDA driver 340.52 is still not supported. Now I have to back install the CUDA drivers.

My GTX-650 Ti is listed as being 3.0, but as reported above, using 9.1.6.3 and the latest Nvidia driver, CUDA encoding is not supported. Not selectable.

Hopefully it can be determined as to why not.

There are something different between Win7 and Win Xp.

Please roll back to the old driver first.

I get a similar error with CUDA.

Just installed the latest Nvidia driver. Under AV Codec I can select CUDA for all Video Decoding (H264, VC1 and MPEG) but when I select CUDA for encoding it says that my graphics card is unsupported and will only allow software.

If I actually do an encoding CUDA is used for the decoding.

How can my graphics card be unsupported for encoding when it is supported for decoding?

This has just happened since installing the latest Nvidia Driver

Quadro 4000M is CUDA 2.1 device. NVIDIA REMOVED THE CUDA BASE CUDA GPU in the new driver form 340.52 or higher.

Please roll back to the old driver 337.88, 335.23 or 334.89 which support CUDA encoder.

Support IQS and CUDA on my PC. I convert a DVD ISO to h264 mp4 format that IQS or CUDA will be used in DVDFab.

I have been talking to their technical support. They just created a new beta which they asked me to test that includes an updated CUDA for the latest driver.

When using this version, under settings I have two options - Use Hardware decoders and Use Hardware Encoders (nVidia CUDA). I only have the encoder ticked.

When you run an encoding the speed of the encoding is greatly increased, from this I can only conclude that CUDA encoding is working.

I am trying to locate my previous quadro driver and will rollback to see if the speed of the encoding changes with that in comparison to the latest one.

Yes the VSO people have definitely got CUDA encoding working with the latest NVidia Driver. I did some tests and this is what I found out:

These were all done encoding the same footage from a BluRay

Driver 311.66
DVDFab encoding 50fps with CUDA enabled for decode and encode
VSO Converter encoding 90fps with CUDA enabled for encode only

Driver 332.50
DVDFab encoding 50fps with CUDA enabled for decode and encode
VSO Converter encoding 90fps with CUDA enabled for encode only

Driver 340.66
DVDFab encoding 25fps with only CUDA enabled for decode only
VSO Converter encoding 90fps with CUDA enabled for encode only

If I then deselect CUDA encoding with VSO I get only 5fps so they have definitely got CUDA encoding working with the latest driver. Talking to their developers confirms this.

Total conversion time should be the factor when comparing speed with Fab not FPS as Fab starts slow and picks up speed later when getting to the main movie then at times near the end slows a little.This happens with cuda and QS.

Yes I know about the ramp up of encoding fps, VSO does the same. The figures I posted were the stabilised figures once they had been running for a short time.

However, these figures are just there to illustrate that CUDA encoding can work with the new driver from Nvidia so surely the guys at DVDFab can implement it in a similar way? It took the VOS development team just a couple of hours to make the change and bingo - working CUDA encoding again.

Come on DVDFab - show us what your made of :)

VSO let you use encode in new driver by copy some file from old driver into their soft install folder, it is not safe at all, maybe it can work in recent new driver, but after Nvidia update the drivers on and on, the file from old driver may can not be coexistence. It's a fake way, IT ACTUALLY STILL USE OLD DRIVER.

Could you please post the conversion parameters here? e.g. output resolution, audio, video bitrate... Or attached the mediainfo of both files.

Thanks for the reply. I actually thought it was quite a creative way of getting it to work. By embedding the dll within their software it means that CUDA will continue to work no matter what update Nvidia create. Not sure how you can say that it is not safe if it is just using the dll from the previous driver?

By doing what they have done people like me (and many others) can continue to use their older graphics card without the need to buy a new one. Considering the Quadro 4000 was about Â£800 I am not going to rush out and get a replacement any time soon.

I realise that I was using a different encoding method in VSO (get better results with Constant Quantizer than with Constant Quality) but I was just trying to illustrate that CUDA was working.
