This probably doesn't belong here, but as cracking DRM may take between days and months a screen or web recording possibility for the time being might be helpful. I see one for IOS but not Windows. I know there exist various Screen recorders out there but when it comes to DRM they record a black square... Any suggestions or alternatives?

Well, if you can create an output of your to-be-recorded video on a mac or pc screen, then you can grab the video signal from an HDMI output of your only screen (if you have more than one output, disable any other screen and disable all remote desktop software on that pc).

You might want to buy an HDMI splitter that works with macs (attention: it is not legal to work around EDID DRM on HDMI output - though possible.). At the input side, plug you computer device, to the outputs plug a TV screen/monitor plus an HDMI grabbing device. There are grabbing devices out there which can record to a hard drive on the click of a button, others need a computer plus software to work with. Hauppauge is a hardware vendor with different solutions.

There are other options and I will not go into further details how and why this works. I can only tell you: it would definitely work. Most screen capturing software that records the screen cannot do the same.

The HDMI solution works perfectly, except (at least for me) it only gives stereo output. I use it by connecting it between a computer and monitor, or between a cable box or firestick and my TV. Then I use dvdfab or unifab to compress the file using CRF, since the HDMI capture device can't compress well. If I can view it on a computer or a TV, I can record it.

Of course this is a last resort, since it works in "real time", so I only use it in an "emergency". I advise waiting for the DRM fix instead.

Thanks for the info. My I ask you a question please, what happens to the original frame rate of the source i.e. 29.97fps or 25fps or a variable framerate, will it be captured as is or convirted to 30fps or 60fps?

That probably depends on the device. I notice that mine always converts interlaced to non-interlaced, which is OK for my purposes. The output is always 30 or 60 fps, but I don't remember if my input is ever 29.97. I'm not fussy enough to notice the details. One problem I did have; for awhile I was using a device between my PVR and a TV, and the PVR and device detected each other as 50fps and used that even though it was wrong for the content.

I hope it doesn't look like we're discussing a competitor. Using an HDMI device and sitting there starting and stopping it every half hour to record a TV series wouldn't be practical. This kind of device is only useful if you need something that Streamfab doesn't support. Like, the only time I've used it in the last year was when a friend was on the local radio news and I had to record from their website.
