No HD or 4K

I've downloaded Dune Part 2 in 4K using the competition. But SF reverts to 720.

Technically, 720p is HD, and 1080p is FHD. So it is downloading HD.

That being said, based on the banner saying:

I would say the developers know and are still working on it.

So for now, we're still stuck at 720p for content added to Max after about Dec 10. Content added before December 10, 2023 is downloadable in 1080p and the select titles Max has at 4K are downloadable at 4K in SF, assuming they were added before Dec 10.

@AGuyWithAComputer, if you want MAX content at 1080p/EAC3 5.1., you might want to check out a MAX subscription through Prime - granted, it doesn't have 4K, but it's better than 720p. There's a 7-day free trial, so you should be able to snag most of what you want at that resolution. I ended up keeping mine for several months after that because the downloads I was getting were so much better than anything I got through MAX by itself (I had it because it's part of my cable package.)

Yeah, I subscribe to Max via Amazon just for the reason of having the option to download either via the Amazon Downloader (up to 1080p) or the Max Downloader (up to 4K depending on content, date added, or SF/AS). I also noticed, including when everything is working properly and downloading 1080p from Max downloader, the video and audio bitrates are better via Amazon Max Channel, and the picture quality is better.

So yes, another vote for subscribing to Max via Amazon Channels if possible.

I get there are some legacy cable users who have HBO (and therefore Max app/web too) included with their cable package (allows viewing/downloading via Max but not Amazon) so they wont want to pay more to do it through Amazon. I was one of them, but I did it anyway. And recently changed cable packages so no longer have it included in my TV service, I have just the Amazon Max Channel subscription.

What that truly means is open to interpretation, but the fact boils down to that they at least know there is a problem with 1080p/4K Max.

My mistake. It's listed in the banner at the top of this forum page.

It gets a little confusing with the release of 6.1.8.1 as they released 3 different announcements. The first being the usual release message with changelog. The second being the Sticky called " Fully Fixed Amazon DRM Issue and Latest Netflix Titles can be Downloaded Now!". The last being the banner at the top of the forum page.

That is also mentioned in the banner message. So at least they appear to know about it, and based on the wording, it appears they are working on it.

Rather than dropping your comment in a thread about MAX shortcomings where it doesn't get the attention it deserves, you should start your own separate DRM MPD topic. That way, anyone who also wants to comment about that particular issue can find it and add onto it without derailing this discussion.

It also makes it harder for SF to avoid dealing with it if there's an actual topic with a whole bunch of commenters complaining about it. Well, in theory, anyway.

No changes to Max with 6.1.8.2. Still unable to download higher than 720p. Not mentioned in the release notes, so I didn't expect a change but wanted to bring attention back to this.

Things analyze higher, so I'm actually curious if it's fixed under the hood but then the logic in the dialog box somehow forces it down to 720p.

This wasn't listed in the changelog for 6.1.8.3, but In limited testing, I had some good 4K/Atmos downloads. Thanks for the surprise fix.

Edit: This appears to b older content only. I should have let my queue finish before getting excited.

Correct. If available in your geography, you can subscribe to Max as an Amazon Prime channel and download content up to 1080p. A few stipulations:

If you subscribe to Max via Amazon Prime Channels, you can also use the Max web site, app and StreamFab Max downloader, in addition to Amazon/Amazon Downloader, which is nice.
Max as a Prime Channel isn't available everywhere
There is often a delay in content hitting Max Prime Channel compared to Max directly. For example, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is on Max directly, but not yet available via Max as Prime Channel. There was a delay with Dune Part 2 as well.
If you have Max bundled as part of another subscription, such as with Cable TV plan, or perk on wireless or other internet plan, you can't download Max content from Amazon or otherwise use Max as Prime Channel. You'd have to also subscribe to Max as Prime Channel separately, meaning a separate/additional charge. Not every one wants to pay for Max twice.
If you want any 4K content, Max as Prime Channel will not deliver that.
Max content downloaded using the Amazon Downloader from the Prime Channel, often looks better and has higher bit rate audio and video, than downing directly via Max and the Max downloader.

Until recently, #4 was a barrier to me. Max was included in the price of my cable provider's plan, so I didn't want to pay the addition $$ per month to also subscribe to the Amazon Prime Channel and use the Amazon downloader. When we re-did our cable plan, we got rid of all pay channels via cable, and I'm subscribing to them via Amazon Prime Channels now.

#5 is the biggest the reason I still use the Max Downloader module and I'm still interested in it. While not as good as 4K Disc, the 4K HDR/DV downloads look a little better than the 1080p downloads, plus usually include DD+ w/Atmos (EAC3-JOC) audio which, on my 5.1.4 system sounds a little more immersive (although again, not as good as the lossless TrueHD w/Atmos on 4K Disc)

Re: #3, I can wait a few days for it to show up on Amazon Channel if I can't download as 1080p via Max directly.

For me, #1 and #6 are the biggest reasons to subscribe to Max as a Prime Channel
