Setting h265 DV, offer no fallback, error 210

When trying to download unknown content that may or may not have DV or HDR10, I thought it was safe to preset to h265 DV.
Apparently though if content is not available in h265 at all, where it's only available in h264 or av1, the download selection works fine, but the analyzing screen eventually errors out with Error 210.
My goal was that if the download eventually started with h264 at that point, I would have canceled and switched over to av1.

You ask why I don't leave it on av1 all the time? Well, all my UHD capable devices support the official standard DV / HDR10 formats, not HDR10+ like Samsung wants us all to use.

I have the premium service, in USA.
TV shows seem to do this, movies, doesn't matter.
Would be a pipe dream to have a full list of download options on the initial analyze window.

You will receive error 210 if you want to dl something that does not exist.

If you prefer H265 DV, then select it as a VIP setting and
you will see after the analysis whether it is offered or not.
If no bit rate shown, use H264 for compatibility reasons:

However, if you prefer AV1 and want to avoid HDR10, downgrade
from Premium to Standard Plan and then there will be no HDR10.

Sounds like you did understand the request, thanks for reading between the lines.
I used to always run VIP setting to h265 DV, and if that did not exist, the program would automatically DL whatever is below that, HDR10, h265 SDR, or h264..

Now you're saying I need to verify there is a bitrate present or else it does not exist, and would error out. The things they should put in manuals right?

With VIP setting H265 DoVi it looks different for me:

- A Serie without H265 show only "if available" like pic above
and SF change to H264 and show report:

(don't ask me why if availabe 720p switch to 1080p - "best offer")

- A Movie without H265 show nothing:

and there is no change - it ended with ErrorCode 210

btw: Is VP9 a alternative for you ?

That's not what i have observed. After HDR10+ was made available for AV1, every single non-Reality TV Competition Show and Movie that was made by Netflix (N in the corner of thumbnail) has had H265 HDR10.

I doubt they will remove H265 anytime soon as it is way better supported than AV1. For example, within Kodi for Android, H265 HDR10 plays flawlessly on a Google Chromecast HD w/Google TV but AV1 without HDR10+ plays in slow motion.

With the Google Streamer, everything play flawlessly, including AV1 with HDR10+.

Although I haven't tested yet, I assume it's the same for the FireStick vs the FireStick 4K... I only have a FireStick 4K so if it does end up working, I have no way of knowing if the non-4K one will play AV1 properly...

Yes, you would also have to differentiate between NF own productions and licensed titles ..
(and before AV1 HDR10, H265 was usually also available for licensed titles - that's over)
.. but MrGrackle seems to have reached his limits with the distinction between movies
and series - otherwise he would have to know about the error 210 described as a DV user himself

I think at issue is that I just have not downloaded anything recent before toggling over to av1. SF used to always automatically try each fallback method without erroring out. Now apparently if you set it to h265, it's that or nothing, no h264 auto-fallback.

But it's easy to see right in the download window if it's available or not. If there is no actual resolution listed, then it's not available.

The whole "If available" drop-downs are really only for the resolution and not the codec. It means that if you see the show DOES have SOME resolutions for that codec, then select an "If available" resolution and that way, it will always download the highest resolution for that codec. So, season downloads in 480p, season 2, in 540p, season 3 in 720p and season 4, in 1080p. If you select 480p, then ALL the seasons download in 480p.

I personally DON'T want it to fall back to a different codec, and it was annoying to me that I wasted credits on shit i already have.

All my stuff downloads automatically with Sonarr. I tell it I prefer H265 but there are still a lot of groups that only release H264. I then use StreamFab to go get the H265 or AV1 version. The only times I used to download H264 was if Sonarr couldn't find the show AT ALL, or, like with the Australian show Fisk, season 1 could only be found by Sonarr without subtitles. Now that most people i share my library with are using modern hardware, i will NEVER get H264 from Netflix

It literally takes 2 seconds to see there are no resolutions available for the item and using a different radio button to choose a different codec

As already written, this is for series ("if available" - with H264 fallback)
and movies (nothing offered) different (no H264 fallback => error 210)

btw: With the statement that there is no DV offer for new releases,
I rather wanted to point out that H265 is not a future-proof NF codec choice.
H265 SDR was also simply dropped after the introduction of AV1.

But in most, or actually, more cases Dovi is available is HDR10+ is offered on av1, h265 of course is required.
Sometimes you can get Dovi in h265, but av1 only offers SDR.
