what's the difference between mkv(mkvtoolnix) and mkv(ffmpeg)?
zapt
The container is the same, but different tools for remuxing.
Basically, I consider mkvmerge to be more reliable and ffmpeg to be more flexible.

Is one format preferred over the other? That depends on the provider and the issue at hand.
Many (SF) problems with remuxing subtitles into files, asynchronous audio,
or naming conventions only affect one of the two. So it's good to have a choice.
