Audiobooks and iphone Books App

Hi,

I’ve converted a few books to audio, and they play ok on my laptop and iTunes, but most do not play on my iPhone or iPad Books app. Are there specific configurations I need to get them to play o Books, or alternatively, is there another iOS audiobook app which I can use to play them?

Our audiobooks are exported in the M4B format, which is Apple’s official format for audiobooks and supports chapters, bookmarks, and playback progress memory. This ensures full compatibility on computers and iTunes.

What is the iOS version of your iPhone and iPad?

Hi Iain, thanks for the clear description.

The easiest reliable way is to sync over a USB cable from your Mac:

Connect your iPhone/iPad to the Mac with a Lightning/USB-C cable and unlock the device. Tap Trust if prompted.
Open Books on the Mac and drag your .m4b file into the Audiobooks (or Books) library. Verify it plays on the Mac.
Open Finder, select your iPhone/iPad in the sidebar, then open the Audiobooks tab.
Check “Sync audiobooks”, choose the audiobook you added, then click Apply (or Sync).
When sync finishes, open Books on the iPhone/iPad — the audiobook should appear and play with chapters/resume.

DVDFab exports audiobooks in M4B format. To play them on iPhone or iPad Books app, sync the file via USB from your Mac. Open Books on Mac, add the M4B file, then in Finder select your device, enable sync for audiobooks, and apply. After syncing, it should play correctly with chapters and resume. Alternatively, apps like BookPlayer can also play M4B files.
