HBO Max Sweden only 720p...

I have tried to download an episode of ‘Den Italienska husdrömmen’ (S01E10), but it only comes down in 720p… I have downloaded all the previous episodes in 1080p H264, but now it doesn’t work anymore…

Have they (HBO Max) updated their DRM, or is there any other error on my side??

Edit: I guess I have to download it in H265 then…

Edit2: S01E11 Downloaded correctly in 1080p H264…

I have seen this many times before where individual episodes on MAX don’t have H264 1080p

To analyze individual episodes, I use “Movie Mode”
(playback, before manual analysis)
If it were a DRM issue, it would not be offered in H265 1080p

btw: ep11 (unlike ep10) is also available in H264 1080p

I was going to start a new post but this one is very similar.

I too have been experiencing movies and shows being limited to 720p (US). This seems to be related to H264 with both MP4 and MKV. When I select H265 I have better size options.

A few weeks ago I was downloading movies at 1080p for MP4, so I’m not sure what changed. I believe I was even using the same version of SF when I noticed this issue. I even tried going back several versions, but the results were the same.

Ideally I would still prefer H264 for compatibility.

I can upload a log file if it would be of help.

The offered resolution has nothing to do with selected Video Format (container)

1080p H264 is not and has never been offered for all content provided by Max ..
(with Chrome you get not >720p and TV’s can get usually HDR10 or DoVi in 4k)
.. so it has nothing to do with SF, if H265 1080p is offered for the same title.

Of course, SF cannot download what is not offered - check max H264 (avc) here

btw: If you “need” H264 1080p use a VPN for other provider ..
example: NF AUS/ES here or PV BE/NL here

Thanks for the clarity Germania. I really appreciate the insight and research you provided. Plus the alternative suggestions lead me to a preferred file!

I guess I may have been lucky with my previous HBO downloads. And I get that SF can’t download something that isn’t there, but sometimes different versions can resolve some issues, in which-case I thought maybe it wasn’t analyzing correctly.

But the process did force me to try H265, which I didn’t know had different and better options. I may need to do some upgrading.
