Interesting, I would have thought that DVDFab would handle this correctly as needed. These are NTSC discs. DVDFab appears to pick the 23.976 for these since I did not tweak this setting, unless it is left over from some previous tweak. In the settings it is shown as “23.976 (same as source)”.
When I look at some .m4v’s I created long ago with DVDFab, their framerate is 23.976 and they are fine. When I look at the recently created .mkv’s where the framerate is set to “same as source”, the resulting framerate in the output varies, but is not 29.97.
But regardless of all of that, I ripped a DVD and chose the general mp4 profile, then changed the fps to 29.97. This resulted in an even worse video that has 2+ defective frames every 30.
