Issue: “Failed to connect to server, please check your network and try again”
This error usually occurs when your computer’s firewall or antivirus software blocks DVDFab from accessing the network. Or that the system HOSTS file may have been modified.
Solution Steps
👉Step 1: Check Firewall / Antivirus
Confirm that DVDFab and its related processes are allowed through your firewall and antivirus software. If already confirmed, proceed to Step 2.
👉Step 2: Check and Repair the HOSTS File
The HOSTS file may have been modified, redirecting DVDFab domains incorrectly. Follow these steps:
a. Locate the file:
Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
b. Edit the file:
Right-click the hosts file and select “Open with” > “Notepad”.
Find and delete all lines containing dvdfab or related domain names.
c. Save the file:
Press Ctrl + S to save.
If you cannot save due to permission issues, use this workaround:
a. Save As the modified file to your Desktop (it will have a .txt extension).
b. Rename the file on your Desktop by removing the .txt extension, so the name is just hosts.
c. Copy this corrected hosts file and paste it back into C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc, replacing the original file when prompted.
After completing these steps, restart DVDFab and try again.
