US HBOMAX 4K - Question

HI, folks - checking in on US users with hBO no ads or with ads; are you able to download 4K movies and series in 4K with 6x/7x SF right now?

Couple of shows I would like to have in 4K including one or two I purchased via Apple, but no way to download other than 1080p (already done) via Prime/purchases.

Thanks. Considering a direct HBO sub, as my trial via Amazon has ended, even after the crazy deal extension. Apologies if there is an existing sticky of “what we can get in 4K right now…”.

Short version. Yes. So long as HBO offers it in 4K. I subscribe through Amazon, but the HBO web site allows me to log in, so I use the HBO downloader to download Game of Thrones, and other series in 4K.

But HBO has only had “select titles” in 4K, so not everything is available in 4K.
If you know what you want is available from HBO web site in 4k, then you can download it with StreamFab either 6 or 7.

That only gives you 1080p content, you need to pay the premium subscription for UHD though, AFAIK

Yes, you can log into the HBO web site if you subscribe via Amazon.
If you subscribe via Amazon, you can download only 1080p via Amazon, but you can also log into HBO and download 4k and 1080p offerings that way.

I find downloading 1080p via Amazon does usually give better video and audio bit rates than downloading 1080p from HBO.

In other words, when I subscribe to HBO via Amazon, I can also log into HBO, but I usually download 1080p via Amazon, and use HBO downloader when I’m trying to get 4k.

My understanding of the HBO subscription via Amazon, it doesn’t include 4k even through the HBO streaming apps and such, but somehow SF has been, and continues to be, able to download 4k from HBO via the HBO downloader.

New one on me:
To log into the Max (formerly HBO Max) website with a Prime Video subscription, go to the Max sign-in page, choose “Sign in through TV/Mobile Provider,” select Amazon, and enter your Amazon account details; this links your Prime HBO subscription to the Max platform for broader access

lol.. okay, so logged in with VIP module, after linking my Prime sub, and totally crashed SF v6 on HBOMAX trying to analyze due to stupid advert, which I don’t get on PRIME. Guess time to install v7 ! Wheeee! :)

simchris link outside of SF in a regular browser, sometimes the said linking requires popups and other stuff that the “carefully crafted to lie to websites” browser of SF doesn’t work

LOL. Well that went into a death loop of crash, report, pop up, crash ….
Installed v7 as admin, reset prefs and settings.
Downloading 3 recent movies in 4K now to see if a-okay in mediainfo after the fact.
Nice!! And v7.1 looks nice. (7.01 or whatever),

I have the HBO standard subscription no ads with PRIME, which was a 99-cent for 3m months deal, then I paid one month, then cancelled, then they offered me another 2 month deal, that ends end of Dec. then $8.97 per month or some oddball thing.

Working now :) #whew !

And yes, the 4K bitrate for HBO VIP is kinda funky. Some seem quite low vs, say, Apple or Di+.
Trying it out. Going to compare the Final Destination 4k HBO VIP, to the 1080p copy I got from another source previously. #wheeee

Is it possible to do the oposite? Like if I have an HBO max sub and use it on Amazon Prime and enable the HbO add on?

OptionX nope (I’d not be surprised if Amazon gets a cut of a channel subscription fee)

OptionX No. The way I understand it is you can access the HBO website with a Prime HBO subscription, but you can’t access the HBO in Prime with an existing HBO subscription that you got outside from HBO directly. There is apparently some stuff not available through Prime that is available through an HBO direct subscription. It’s all very weird.
