Apple TV Download speeds?

Hi All, I recently purchased Apple TV from Steamfab but I still haven’t been able to complete my first download. Trying to download a ONE-HOUR show, the download is showing only TWENTY PERCENT complete after NINE HOURS and is showing 287.69 KB/s.

My question is - IS THIS NORMAL? I’ve used Disney Plus from Streamfab and in the past I have been able to complete downloads of COMPETE SEASONS in just a few hours.

Any advice would be appreciated

Nope, I get only 10MB/s - but that’s my maximum available speed (!)

PETE MCCOLE Apple is the only thing that can max out my 2.5Gbps connection 🤷‍♂️

Edit: having said that, SF isn’t downloading into a void, so if wherever your TEMP folder is can’t keep up, your download speeds will be affected, and if you’re writing lots of small chunks over network… that’s ain’t fun! and if you have virus checking enabled for the TEMP folder, that too, has quite an impact

No slowdown here, but they do “sometimes” have some slowdowns when new shows launch like ‘F1.’ Could be your locale. Common suggestion many of us make, is changing your default ISP on your computer to Google and/or Cloudflare, as this solves some whacky gremlins sometimes that otherwise make no sense.

Yeah I went away from my ISP dns servers when I found out they can log every site I visit that way.
Cloudflare, open dns, there are many alternatives.
And as Germania linked to, changing dns seemed to help others who had simular issues.

I did a comparison test and tried downloading a Disney + stream at the same time. I managed to download “Return of the Jedi” in just a few minutes at maximum speed, while “F1” still plodded along at 300 KB/s…

Base on this, I can assume it’s NOT my ISP. With Disney +, my download speed has been fine,

Possibly a peering problem in the Internet exchange points involved ..
.. I would try a VPN server near your location.

I had same problem with Apple. Disney was fine, Apple was dead slow. Changed DNS to Cloudflare and now Apple is FAST. I am downloading something right now and I am seeing 60mbs. FYI, I tried Google DNS first and it did not help.

My speeds on apple tv are mostly fine, however the more I download the slower it gets, no reason why. Like I can start downloading an episode and for a while it sits at like 20MBPS and then it slowly goes down until it’s like 4MBPS, the episode is not done though so it just takes forever at that point.

I get 45.25 MB/s when downloading Pluribus, so I’m not seeing this issue.

I’m in the US, Direct Subscription to Apple TV, No VPN.

yeah, the DNS change has long been a solution for those of us with cloudbackup solutions and just solves so many random things…why so many of us old dudes keep recommending it!

It’s generally better to run your own local dns server, even if you peer off cloud/your isp… Try it, you’ll notice “snappiness” of “stuff” 😏

Thank you for all the replies. “TheRaven” I tried your idea and changed my DNS to Cloudflare and that solved the problem I’m now topping out at 15 MB/s. I had to consult the Wizard (Google) to figure out exactly how do it, but it worked.

PETE MCCOLE I tried switching my DNS to cloudflare 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 and I am getting the same problem you had. What DNS server are you using?
