Star Trek TNG Resolution

I have a trial subscription to Paramount+ through Amazon Prime and Star Trek TNG is in 1080p for the first double episode, then the rest are 540p. Pretty much everything else I try is 1080p, is this a Paramount decision or is StreamFab the culprit?

Probably P+ - it may be they are showing the old streaming copies, and have not ported the 1080p bluray copies to their platform. My P+ subscription just ended Jan 1, so cannot check, sorry. In my experience, PRIME never has “lower quality” than the original source, if the original source subscription has 1080p versions.

I have access to P+ and the Blu Rays and yeah, the streaming one is definitely poor quality. They definitely phoned it in when it came to that series.

it is a shame because the blu rays are pristine but streamfab often defaults to 540p when widevine drm keys are updated or restricted by the provider

Paramount+ clearly downgraded or changed something since January 2023, when all seasons of ST:TNG on Paramount+ were full 1080p. This capture shows only the final season in my NAS, but all eps in all seasons are 1080p resolution. (I used a now-defunct tool for the downloads, direct from P+. At that time P+ also had 4K downloads via that tool. Times have certainly changed!)

Guess that would explain why trying to watch TNG via AMZ is crap. I always thought it was just low bitrates.
I have noticed that DS9, even though SD video, the audio is only 2.0, but yet the DVDs are 5.1. Again, their streaming people are either following a shitty business model or are incompetent mopes.

I downloaded TNG via Amazon a few years back, and was lucky enough to grab the HD version for all seasons. Now only the first season is available in HD, the rest are SD if you use Paramount subscription, even though it’s available to purchase or rent in HD.

Guessing they are scaling down in the hopes of saving bandwidth or maybe they are going to try and up sell their stuff to their users by only giving the lower resolution stuff and announcing a new box set soon.

I just know I have access to the blu-ray release and watched it streaming using the Edge browser so I know it supported the full streaming quality and what they have on the streaming service is massively worse. Like a bitrate starved DvD release.

Incorrect. Netflix has already stated they didn’t care about CNN or any of that. They wanted HBO and their movie catalog.

Paramount (I believe it was but I know 100% for sure it wasn’t Netflix) on the other hand wants CNN along with it and staged a hostile takeover of the whole thing and even has the support of the current administration. They are the ones who are trying to turn it into cult propaganda I believe.

Those of MAGA are hoping to radicalize more into joining their suicide cult.

It’s not even Streamfab that’s the issue on this. I can stream it using Microsoft Edge straight from the Paramount website and it looks like butt. From what I can tell, they aren’t using the Blu-Ray copy for their source but the original TV showings of it.

They might have used the Blu-Rays at some point but they aren’t using it now. Part of it has me wondering if they are planning a rerelease in the near future and advertising improved visuals again and just giving the worst possible experience on their site to make that release just look that much better.

There is some reason, probably because Amazon wants you to buy TNG to download in higher resolution, I barely ever run into stuff at 540p on Amazon but have recently.
I was testing Blue Water High, and it’s in 540p, I did have SF analyze the last episode of season 3 and still 540p so that whole show is 540p, plus it’s from 2005.
