Disney+; cannot download 4 IMAX Enhanced titles in H265 at 4K

Please don’t lock this post! Yes I know that the entire movie isn’t going to be in the 1.9:1 aspect ratio.
I’ve looked through this forum and other places online, and tried whatever solutions/workarounds that other users have tried, but nothing has worked for me. This includes going into the browser and starting the movie in the specified format, then going into StreamFab and downloading it in that format. I’ve tried clearing the cache, clean uninstalling the program, logging out and back in again, and I also was on version 7.0.0.8 when this started.

I specifically choose the IMAX Enhanced version under “VERSIONS”, select Dolby Vision and 3840×2160 at the highest bit rate available, and the program says that it downloaded the IMAX Enhanced version, and the video that gets downloaded has “IMAX Enhanced” in the file name. However, when I go to play the video, I see that these 4 movies specifically do not have any of the IMAX Enhanced scenes at places/times where they should. I have working versions of these movies at 1080p that I have used for testing what I should be getting vs what the program is actually downloading. I want to get them at 4K with Dolby Vision but they refuse to work.

1) Black Panther (the first IMAX Enhanced scene is the opening scene).

2) Avengers: Infinity War (the first IMAX Enhanced scene is the Marvel logo at the very beginning).

3) Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania (the first IMAX Enhanced scene is at 13 minutes 20 seconds).

4) Captain America Brave New World (the first IMAX Enhanced scene is at 3 minutes 20 seconds - Brave New World title scene).

If any of these are downloaded in H264 at any resolution, the example scenes listed above are in the IMAX Enhanced format. The exception is Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania; it should have IMAX Enhanced scenes (with one noted above for testing), but specifically selecting the IMAX Enhanced version of Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania in H264 at any resolution does not seem to download the format correctly.

I am using the latest version of StreamFab (7.0.1.1) and I cannot get these 4 movies to download in the IMAX Enhanced video format if H265 is selected. The resolution, and whether it’s SDR, HDR10, or Dolby Vision that are selected doesn’t matter.

All other IMAX Enhanced titles download fine and have their respective scenes with H265 at 4K with Dolby Vision. It’s just those 4 listed above.

Here is an example with Brave New World at the same time. The one on the left is the working H264 1080p file and the one on the right is the H265 4K DV file. Both are supposed to be IMAX Enhanced at this scene but only the left one is.

I can’t say anything for sure, but SF may not get the info needed to download the IMAX versions with Dolby Vision.
At least not the IMAX versions for those 4 movies.
So SF may then default to the non-IMAX version if it can’t get the IMAX version in Dolby Vision.

I only tested Black Panther; there was no way I could get IMAX with H265 Dolby Vision, but I did get IMAX with H265 HDR10.

I am happy I get the movies in 4K. If I get IMAX, great; if not, I won’t miss much.
And all my 4k is HDR10.

That’s the thing though! Some of them don’t download in the IMAX Enhanced format at all, whether it be in H264 or H265 SDR!

I don’t think that it’s an issue just with StreamFab not getting the info needed to download them.
For example, I tried downloading all of the MCU IMAX titles in HDR10, and all of them have the IMAX Enhanced scenes except for:

Avengers Infinity War (can only get the IMAX Enhanced version with H265 HDR10 - it doesn’t give me the IMAX Enhanced version in H265 SDR),
Captain Marvel (can’t get the IMAX Enhanced version unless it’s H265 SDR or DV (I want to get the IMAX HDR10 version) - the first IMAX scene is at 47 seconds in),
Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania (can’t get the IMAX Enhanced version at all),
Captain America Brave New World (can only get the IMAX Enhanced version with H264).

I think Disney+ has some kind of new protection/encryption scheme rolling out that StreamFab needs to get around, otherwise these movies should download fine.

Well, I am not going to point fingers at what the issue is; I just know with Black Panther every time using H256 HRD10, I get the IMAX, so I know I am able to get the IMAX and what to do to get it.
All I do then is the same thing but change from H256 HDR10 to H256 Dolby Vision, try and download, and NO IMAX.
So for Black Panther, something is preventing the IMAX in H265 Dolby Vision.
And will then only guess it’s the same or similar something for the other movies, if they don’t download as H265 Dolby Vision in IMAX

I am not testing the other movies you listed. I can only also say all other IMAX movies I downloaded were downloaded in IMAX, and as I said, I always use H256 HDR10.
I have not downloaded any of the other movies you listed; some movies I may like, others I may not. But did happen to do Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) some time ago, and that’s in H256 HRD10, IMAX.

As for getting the StreamFab developer to even care, the list of completely broken or partly broken modules is very long, and they feel it’s time for another 4K module. Which will need at least 2 weeks minimum of fixing after released. It’s been the same for every 4k module.

This is one situation where you may have to ask yourself, is IMAX more important or Dolby Vision?
If Dolby Vision, then you will be fine (just ignore the few that are not in IMAX).
If IMAX, then using H265 HDR10, you will be fine (just ignore they are not in Dolby Vision).

It was locked because it got old and had the same answers over and over.
One even asking, is IMAX really worth the trouble? I download it because I can always get it using H265 HRD10.
(When the movie supports it.)

Yes, I’ve read over that thread time and time again just to make sure that I didn’t miss anything but I am very well versed in this to begin with. I didn’t miss anything because I actually understand what I should be getting as opposed to people who think the entire movie should be in IMAX (exception is Fantastic4).

It’s not too much to ask for both, or at least IMAX in HDR10, especially since it worked a few months back. For some movies to not even download in the IMAX Enhanced format, even in SDR H264 or H265, is an indication that something isn’t working correctly. Also, if you read the post that I made above, I said that I couldn’t get 2 of the movies to even download in the IMAX Enhanced format at all.

Can you try to replicate my situation and see if you can get Quantumania and Brave New World in IMAX at H265?

To me, the IMAX Enhanced format IS important as it completely changes the viewing experience. The fact that all but 4 movies can download in this format at 4K with Dolby Vision and/or HDR10 means that I am, in fact, not crazy for wanting the content that is available. It’s not crazy to want them all to be downloadable at the same resolution with the same HDR format.

@Wilson.Wang do you have any advice or can you pass this along to the devs?

Last time I checked, I couldn’t get those to stream in DV on my ROKU Ultra, either. Although, Brave New World worked when I checked last. It just seems like they’ve just gone away.
Iron Man (2008) was like that a while back, then suddenly returned. Haven’t looked again.

It appears that it was an issue on Disney+'s end the entire time. Within the past week, I was able to get the 4 IMAX Enhanced titles that I was looking for in both Dolby Vision and HDR10.
