I’ve noticed an issue when downloading older series from HBO Max. Even when the download quality is set to 1080p (as indicated in the pop-up menu), the episodes are actually downloaded at 720p.
From what I can tell, this appears to be tied to the pilot episode being available only in a lower resolution than the rest of the series. The app seems to default the entire season or download set to the pilot’s resolution rather than using the highest available quality for each episode.
I’ve encountered this behavior with The Big Bang Theory and Friends, but it may affect other legacy titles as well.
It would be helpful if downloads behaved more like other streaming options on StreaFab, where each episode downloads at the highest available quality (or where users can explicitly force the highest quality regardless of the pilot’s resolution).
