since the new version we can only download video with format 264.
no longer AV1 or V9 format..

Melcitron I’m getting the same thing even with videos i have previously downloaded in VP9 but now only getting h264 (streamfab 7016)

.. it is known that VP9/AV1 is not always immediately available for new videos.

This depend how long YT take to process a YT video to
something that their software can process and download.
This could take hours to sometime days.

So the latest plot twist with SF and YT, ends with a error notice from YT stating “the page needs to be refreshed.” This occurs when I try to download by entering just the address in the section found on the download queue page. No joy to be had there with any URL that I’ve tried.
Then I tried to bring up the YT video on the main sites page. It plays the video and the download button on the lower right turns yellow. I click it, and it sits there analyzing forever with nothing being downloaded. Again, no joy.
Why the hell can’t we just get something to work without breaking something else? What worked in one release is broken in the next, Still waiting on Fawesome to come back (it used the YT/YT Plus decoder). Worked several releases ago, then began to fail with the next release, and now, SF does not even recognize that a stream is being played.
I understand that sites sometimes change their protocols in a way that is totally unnoticeable to the user, but fouls up SF big time. Please fix this mess!

yt-dlp was updated yesterday (with changes for YT) ..
.. of course this update is not included in current SF

What is funny is the other program I use, Open Video Downloader still has not auto-updated yt-dlp in weeks, and everything still works. The issue must like on the back end (SF) and not the front end (YT-DLP).

Most other YT downloaders, when developed properly, auto update yt-dlp to latest nightly and checks deno for updates.
Many even do this in the background so it’s barely noticed.

YT makes changes almost daily now to stop or even temporarily block downloading so users get forced to watch and see the ads so YT keeps the money rolling in. Remember downloading has no ads.

It also can depend on video and location how much and when the changes made by YT will affect a user.

SF, at best, updates once a week, so until the next update, more may lose the ability to download, and it will keep happening and most likely weekly as YT makes changes; some may never see it or not see it for days.

It seems users are hesitant about change. Open Video Downloader was good, and if it works, no need to change.
For me, https://www.videohelp.com/software/media-downloader or even better, Stacher7. Each time it runs, it auto-checks and updates yt-dlp to the latest nightly and checks Deno for updates. Stacher7 needs little command line use but has options for those that use it. It handles all standard YT videos and playlists very well, is free via voluntary donations, and is very actively updated and maintained.

I wanted to add there are extensions as well for YT downloading as well as websites.
