Criterion DRM MPD doesn't work

I keep getting confused.
I’ve read that it works fine, and then I’ve read that it should be a feature request, because it does not work. Then, today, I came across a piece called 3 Verified Methods to Download Movies on Criterion Channel on Laptop on the streamfab site, dated 1 month ago (Feb 26, 2026) where it gives instructions on how to do it. I’ve never been able to. I’ve never seen the “green arrow” for the criterionchannel. From Canada or from the US (with a vpn). Can watch no problem from either country.

So I’m just wondering… can anyone do it? Should I spend the next 5 days troubleshooting? Or is it the case that it doesn’t work for anyone?

Some times grabbing Criterion films with MPD works smoothly, but other times it doesn’t

With the MPD downloader, the Criterion Channel supports downloading video along with subtitles and audio.
Although it is not listed among the supported sites, I have used it successfully.

I tried different SF 7.x versions and changed vpn server ..
(therefore, I accessed the info page and player multiple times)
.. I tried resume and fresh start + refresh
=> no detection (not even the trailer) same with other title

btw: With SF 6267 (and current widevinecdm) I can’t play:
“We’re having trouble authorizing playback for this video.”
“Sorry, you are not authorized to watch this video.”

Hey,
When I got the criterion channel to work it is necessary to play and wait. There wasn’t a yellow button on the bottom right. It needs to pick up the mpd. It’s possible that a widevine got an update and broke it.
I don’t subscribe right now, but I think Roku and Amazon have the channel and 5.1 audio witch criterion lacks with the mpd module.
Also I used a pc and version 7 somewhere around 7.8

I have no idea why this assumption keeps resurfacing every month for different providers ..
.. the last update was released last year and has been supported by SF since mid January.

If that were the case, you wouldn’t be able to play it in HD ..
.. or the video would be found, but SF wouldn’t receive an key to decrypt HD.

Has worked for me for months but stopped working this week. Usually drm recognizes stream then when clicked it brings up the window to select setttings and adds to dowload. it usually logs itself out, but if I log right back in then download starts. but not working this week.

Whatever changed it seems it’s not working.
SF has an article so contact SF feedback if not working.

I found a manual way for Indieflix, which uses the
same platform, but it doesn’t work so easily with Criterion ..

.. both use private videos from Vimeo - Indieflix uses DRM-free m3u8 videos.
Criterion, on the other hand, uses mpd and DRM protection, so a key is required there.

One thing they have in common is that you can’t find any m3u8 or mpd files (directly)
using DevTools. That’s precisely why SF can’t find a suitable URL.

Can no longer download videos from the Criterion Channel. Was able to in March 2026, but not now. The DRM MPD download button does not generate. I have uninstalled and then re-installed SF with no luck. Any suggestions?

When trying to grab from criterion StreamFab does not capture the stream and the download button never activates. This occurs with all titles on criterionchannel (US).

This does not appear to be a wide spread issue with the community. How do I resolve this?
