4k Blu Ray UHD Ripper

Guess i am confused by the profiles and how to rip 4k movies properly. I have been converting all of my .ISO movies to .mkv. Maybe the hobbit/LOTR are the first 4k i have hit, but i have just been using passthrough (edited out 4k here, didn’t mean that) mkv.

When doing the 4k movies, do i need to just continue selecting pass through mkv, or do i now need to do passthrough, 4k, h265, 10bit as it tried to default to? When you select h265 you no longer get mkv, so i dont even know how to save the selection within the filter for this? Appreciate any help

i mean i guess what i am asking is passthrough always truly passthrough, whether 4k, atmos, etc?

Passthrough always means the movie is copied 1:1.

The other profiles mean the movie is re-encoded. You can essentially set the bitrate yourself.

Thank you, i really appreciate the reassurance. I had some strange warnings pop up a month ago when looking at these blu rays for ripping, and i couldn’t recall what it was trying to tell me. I also think it was odd, in ripping all these .iso’s the default was set to mkv passthru, but when i put these iso’s in it changed, made me think it was a recommendation.
