SF 7.0.2.4 and Peacock

So with todays release of 7.0.2.4, take the office (superfan edition) on peacock. the release notes says h265. but my SF only downloads in h264. even though my settings are set to h265:

I tested with a clean install, and still h264 downloads instead of h265.

I see what you mean, picking a random GARBAGE movie. sure enough options for formats are there. 🙁 just not an option for certain tv shows to choose h265.

guess I could always re-encode to AV1. but I’ll wait for my office - superfan bluray complete series to ship to me in July

When I see stuff available from the scene stating h265 and PCOK in the same sentence, then trying the same content myself and not seeing h265, I do have questions. (referring to TV shows which would be SDR). I do not see anywhere that they’re repacks or such.

But everything I have tried so far would be h265 SDR and am not seeing the option. Are we looking at a same scenario as Hulu or Disney+? h265 SDR might be available, we just can’t get it with what we got.

Now seeing 4K DoVi and such as an option is certainly a plus! Just how are they getting h265 SDR out there?

For the time being, continuing to get h265 SDR from the scene is my only option, unless I really want to recode it myself.

it looks like h.265 is only available if at least 4K SDR is available… and it kind of makes sense- why bother wasting storage on two different encodings when bandwidth nowadays is cheaper than storage

Have not tried it yet but the scene does have the TV series Twisted Metal available in 4K SDR. I wasn’t enough of a fan to merit getting the much larger files.
Bandwidth for a single user might be cheap, but major providers times Millions of customers… being able to reduce it even 20% can make the difference in making it profitable and not raising prices too soon.

MrGrackle bear in mind that most providers pay for 95th percentile, not actual bytes transferred

For TV series, some “Peacock Originals” are available in H265 / 4K.

A big problem with Peacock is I’m not seeing any badges for “4K” or “UHD” on titles while browsing their site, so I have to waste time with a download/analysis cycle just to find out if H265/4K is an option or not. (I have Peacock Premium with ads, and it’s a hassle waiting for analysis to complete on Peacock, while ads play in the background!)

If anyone knows where to find a 4K/UHD badge on Peacock, please share!

Ex: Hamnet is in 4K, but no badges. Same for other movies and other series I’ve tried - no resolution indicators at all.
