Odd characters in Arabic subtitles in Netflix

Hi all,
I am downloading episodes of The Middle on Netflix with English and Arabic subtitles.
When I playback using VLC media player with the Arabic subtitle sub track activated, each Arabic subtitle line is preceded by the characters <ampersand>rlm; as shown in the attached screenshot image. The English subtitles don’t have these characters (but the subtitles are in capital letters for some reason).
Does anyone have an idea what is causing this and how to remove the <ampersand>rlm; from the Arabic subtitles please?

&rlm; is an html-code for unicode right-to-left mark. Are you using vtt or srt subtitles? I’d say it’s more of a VLC problem tbf… 🤷‍♂️

edit: unless, of course, SF writes out the subtitles as &rml; but you’ve not provided the subtitles file so we can but guess…

I know some users use SubtitleEdit; I’m not sure if that would work, assuming the info is in the SRT.

But there might be someone who knows more about SubtitleEdit and what it can do or how it can do it.

SubtitleEdit can even scan movies with no subtitles and analyze the audio, and what language the audio is in is what language the SRT will be in. It does audio/speech-to-text conversion.
