Chapters missing from downloaded file

Hi everyone. I’m starting this thread to report an issue that may have already been discussed here before; if that’s the case and there’s already a solution, I’d really appreciate it if someone could point me to the relevant thread.

Basically, downloading embedded chapter markers from Amazon movies seems to be a bit hit-or-miss. I remember older versions of the program downloading them automatically without any problems, while with the newer versions I’ve never managed to get them included in the final file.

Recently, I bought a movie on Prime Video specifically because I wanted a complete download (video, audio, subtitles, and chapters). However, the final downloaded file is missing the chapters entirely. I also checked another file shared online from the exact same source, and the chapters are present there, so they clearly do exist on Prime — the program just doesn’t seem to detect them.

Is there any way to force chapter downloads? Or is this maybe a known bug that the developers are planning to fix sometime soon?

are you doing mp4 or MKV ?? i believe MKV preserves embedded chapters

october262 I usually download in MP4 format, but I just tried MKV as well and the result is exactly the same: no chapters. Also, when I mentioned older versions in my previous post that downloaded chapters without any issues, those files were always downloaded as MP4s too, and the chapters were properly embedded.

Oh, and I’m on Windows, in case that helps narrow things down.

logusum as you can see from another post, Amazon just recently changed their API, maybe chapters are affected too 🤷‍♂️

I went back to older downloaded Amazon movies; both mkv and mp4 have chapters, but out of 25 movies, it seemed to be touch and go. Some had chapters, others did not. More did not have chapters than those that did. So doubt it’s SF; it’s more likely it’s Amazon.
Movies go back to June of 2024.

BTW, it will show easier if the file is MKV.

Did you try the latest MKVMerge? SF’s version, I believe, is really old. Bunkus just released MKVToolNix 99 yesterday.

Funny, I just showed a screenshot of files downloaded from late 2024 into 2025 with chapters, downloaded from Amazon.

Might be a weird SF bug, but more likely Amazon has files with and without the chapters.

Although it might be more reliable after thinking about it if mkvmerge were updated in SF.

Although MP4 has them, but not all of them either; it just stays ‘blank’ instead of yes or no.

Currently I am back to doing all videos in MKV (MKVToolNix).

(Off-topic, but Plex module audio is out of sync with any other setting but mkv (MKVToolNix).

It’s the new Mario movie (not sure if I can post the whole title safely, but you know for sure what I’m talking about). Currently available only on Prime via purchase or rental. I bought it.

StreamFab removed Amazon chapter support when the version that made improvements to prevent Amazon account bans was released.
