There might be a few trouble YT videos out there, or I may want to say there are.

Every time I see threads with this title I only figure yt-dlp was updated again to offset YT code changes and we have to wait for an SF update, which returns the argument for user replaceable binaries or an auto-update of the binary.

You know, it would have been really nice if they would have put that in their Changelog. I’ve only been requesting the idea for the last 3 years. Like many others here, I only upgrade to a newer version when it solves a problem I am having because I’ve found that updates sometimes cause more problems than I start with.

I’m guessing this is their way of alerting everyone that yt-dlp.exe is the new YoutubetoMP3Process.exe.

Please note the stable yt-dlp 2026.06.09 is out. Also note (especially to the developer) that yt-dlp needs a Deno.exe greater than 2.3. I haven’t checked lately, but I believe SF comes with one less than that. The current Deno.exe and the one I use is 2.8.2.

.. and with previous yt-dlp version old deno and aria2c is supported
In current SF is deno v2.5.6 - so it’s “greater than 2.3”

But since I’m at work, I can’t say right now in which cases aria2c is being used
and what might stop working after an update when using yt-dlp -U (as admin)

Yes, I saw that when I finally updated to 7.0.30. I’ve been using the latest releases for most of the individual apps that SF uses, and so I rarely notice what versions SF actually contains. Those are aria2c, atomicparsley, CCextractor, curl, dash-mpd-cli, deno, ffmpeg (daily master versions), mp4box (GPAC), mediainfo, mkvmerge (MKVToolNix), shaka, and now finally, yt-dlp.

As far as aria2c goes, I would think that the developer would be in the best position to know what is in the source code. The little knowledge I have of aria2c is that it is mainly used to speed up downloads. So, since it is found in the YouTubeDL directory, I’m leaning toward it having something to do with the YouTube “Turbo” switch that newbies think will speed up the entire SF program and all its downloads.

I found some batch scripts on my HDD using yt-dlp with aria2c downloader ..
.. earlier I used them often, because it was much faster with some providers

Nothing will fail - should SF attempt to use it, it will be ignored.
So something like this:

will download (with new yt-dlp) single fragments without aria2c
so it’s slower, if not option -N is used .. like SF default before 6262
