Failed to get encryption key

Can’t download anything from NOW. I’m using StreamFab v 7.0.4.1 and am logged into my NOW account.

I’ve been having the same issue with recent NOW download attempts.

I’ve just tried again with 7.0.4.2. and attached a log which shows:

1) The Rehearsal Season 1 Episode 1 gets the “Failed to obtain the decryption key” error.
2) Mortal Kombat 2 downloads in 720p.

The recent pattern as far as I can see is that brand new releases (e.g. Mortal Kombat 2) will download in 720p but anything older returns the “Failed to obtain the decryption key” error, although I think this has been a bit more random in recent weeks with some older shows downloading in 1080p but it definitely seems to have got worse.

I’m wondering if it’s connected to the Sky Showtime issues which seem similar [https://forum.dvdfab.cn/d/473146-skyshowtime-failed-to-obtain-the-decryption-key/7]

My theory 2 months ago in this post: https://forum.dvdfab.cn/d/469975-7026--only-limited-1080p-support/54 was that NOW TV is effectively separate catalogues:

a) If the film is listed on here: [https://www.artesea.co.uk/nowtv/movies.php]or the TV show is listed here: [https://www.artesea.co.uk/nowtv/boxsets.php] up until recently it was downloadable in 1080p. Now these shows are returning the "Failed to obtain the decryption key error.
b) If a film/TV series isn’t listed on the catalogues linked in a) it is downloadable in 720p. This “catalogue” still seems to be working.

So I think that means there’s now an issue with the catalogue a) above.

My Now TV subscription is still NOW Entertainment & HBO Max Membership & NOW Cinema with NOW Boost.

@Wilson.Wang please can you ask the developer to look into this.

Sky West did you try with earlier versions of SF?

The problem will effect the below modules:

WOW/NOW: Download the video to 720p first.
Peacock/SkyShowtime: Download the video to 1080p first.

Thanks @Wilson.Wang I’ve just tried to download The Rehearsal Season 1 episode 1 again from the queue that I created yesterday and it returned a 212 error.

I then cleared my queue, re-added The Rehearsal and it will now download in 720p.

I’ve also noticed that when it is downloading, it plays the video in the background, which is what it used to do before you made the changes in June 2026 to be able to download in 1080p from part of the catalogue.

I’m guessing that’s means you’ve changed something your end.

Will the developer now look into a fix to restore 1080p downloads from NOW, as it feels like we’re back to the start of this thread: [https://forum.dvdfab.cn/d/469975-7026--only-limited-1080p-support/54]?

Wilson.Wang Thanks @Wilson.Wang unfortunately I’ve just tried to download The Rehearsal Season 1 Episode 1 and I Used To Be Funny (both available in the TV and Cinema catalogues) and both downloaded in 720p rather than 1080p.

They also played the video while downloading, which is what they were doing yesterday as well.

I added them both to a fresh queue before downloading.

Wilson.Wang Thanks! Yesterday the 1080p option was gone altogether, now it’s back and the download are working again 🙂

Thanks @LesStC I’ve just tested The Rehearsal and I Used To Be Funny and both are now available to download in 1080p.

@Wilson.Wang can you let me know if the developer is still working on fixing the 1080p downloads for everything that is not in the the TV and Cinema catalogues as per this thread. This mainly affects HBO content (e.g. Euphoria Season 1 & 2, Girls etc.) but also various new films e.g. Nobody, Mortal Kombat II, all this content is only available in 720p (@LesStC I’d be grateful if you could test any of these titles and confirm this is the case for you as well).
