You shouldn’t use DoVi or HDR if your player don’t support it ..
.. HDR10 would look pink and Dolby Vision look green
if your player cannot decipher or tone map -> info

mmecca21 you need software and hardware capable of DoVi, there’s no way around that. For example, there are plenty of Lenovo laptops that come with DoVi support, and the Microsoft’s own Film & TV app is perfectly fine playing profile 5 files so long as you have H.265 codec (it flashes “Dolby Vision” logo on playback)…

Media Player Classic Home Cinema (MPC-HC) will tone map to look like SDR.
It is part of the K-Lite Codec pack, and can also be downloaded by itself.

Don’t know if this might help, but to mitigate the issue of what player/device plays nice with DoVi and not without having to have multiple files, I download both DoVi and HDR10/+ versions of files and then use DDVT to pull the DoVi data from that file and inject it into the other so it now has both formats in one file. It is SUPER simple to use and has helped make sure no matter the playback device, the available HDR format will be in the file for clean playback.

timebeing if that’s your “playflow” then why not just download HDR10+, afaik all most hybrid mixes are st. 2094, which is the best case you can squeeze out of a dovi-incapable system with jriver???

And if one’s excuse is “future upgreadability”- if you haven’t got a DoVi system by mow, you probably won’t, given that Dolby are rolling out DoVi 2…
