Installed region change

Maybe weird but maybe someone has a solution.
Whenever I try to update SF from the pop-up it always tries to download “version”_US. I’m not in the US.
The obvious answer is to just do a complete delete & clean install, but just wondering if anyone knows where to edit the install version region, which is obviously set wrong. I know del/inst doesn’t take very long, but if there’s a 30second file edit available……
Ideas???

Hi,
No, talking about the actual program, hence “Whenever I try to update SF…..”. Somehow it has got a setting with “US” set instead of EU or UK, I just want to change it without doing uninst./reinst.

Why do they provide the online updater with its constant reminder every time you open the Streamfab program if you should never use it?
I’m located in europe so my download country should be Greece / EU, but it defaults to US - I’m just wanting to change that without an uninstall / reinstall.
Obviously no-one knows the answer as to how.

For the same reason that proxy settings exist in SF,
which haven’t worked for years.

As Cats4U correctly pointed out, there has long been a phenomenon
where countless reported problems cannot be reproduced by other users,
because the experienced users who want to help generally avoid
the online updater and have thus been spared the issue.

It is therefore no coincidence that a fresh installation is the only
working solution for many problems. With the offline installation,
the problem wouldn’t have arisen in the first place ..
And if you want to download movies or series, a 50%
saving on data transfer during online updates is negligible.

If I never use the online updater, I don’t worry about it either.
Besides, it makes absolutely no difference where the update is downloaded - so what?

I’ve never had a problem with the online updater. (Except on one occasion, when they’d changed the version of a Microsoft library and hadn’t included it).

However, when upgrading to version 7, I did carry out a clean install.

I only use the online updater after the computer has been restarted and my queue is empty.

And after the update, I restart the computer before using Streamfab for the first time.

This forum has always been for users to help other users. Ideally, the experienced help the newbie. It was realized by users more than three or four years ago that on some occasions, using the online updater tends to result in problems and failure. This happens most often when there has been a major change added to the Settings or a change to a component of StreamFab. A fine example recently would be the update to the latest Widevine. That having been said, even small changes that you would never suspect have caused problems in the past with the online updater. Therefore, learning from the experienced would dictate that you should avoid using the online updater, as it seems that, for some reason, the developer has a weakness covering all possibilities when the update is online. I have probably appealed to SF staff more than half a dozen times over the years to remove the online updater, as have others. For some reason they still keep it around. From the experienced, you should avoid the online updater and use a direct download of the offline update in combination with a full clean install or by setting up a separate version update in a set of different directories (main program, temp, log, cache, and sometimes output). You can continue to use the online updater for as long as your luck holds out but if you develop problems (which you will eventually), don’t bother to post here about your woes, as you will only be told the same truth by the experienced as has been told to everyone over the years—DON’T USE THE ONLINE UPDATER.

One thing I forgot to mention concerning setting up a separate version update using different directories… be careful to check your PATH in your environmental variables to make sure that SF or components of SF aren’t being referred back to previous versions.

I only used the online updater once, Feb 2025, and caused an issue on Windows 11.
Switched to the offline x64 updater; install as admin; zero issues since with the application itself.

Thanks all for the answers, most enlightening & useful.
Unfortunate that, having worked in comms, computers & networking since the late 70’s I am from the generation where we didn’t roll out a software release until it had been proven to work 100% - even if that testing took months (and often did).
Whilst I realise that it would be almost impossible to do these days, it is a great shame that large software companies (ahem, Mr. Gates) got away with throwing out problematic software then constantly telling users “it’ll be fixed in the next update”. Sometimes it was, more often it just gave more problems.
How times change, usually not for the better.

Just a footnote.
Headed over to SF website to download latest version standalone &…….
my current version is 7.0.4.4, the latest standalone is 7.0.4.5, the version I’m being advised about with the update nags is 7.0.4.6.
Would that have taken someone more than 30seconds to check??? (maybe it is rocket science!!).

At least in recent years when you do an in-program update (via the pop up) on my pc it downloads and saves the ‘update installer’ in ../temp/update and and when checking the file there it is identical with the offline installer one can manually download off the website. IMHO that suggests there is no difference between using the popup updater and manually installing the offline installer on top of an existing install (as distinct to uninstalling an old version and then installing the new one).

Maybe I’ve just been lucky, but I’ve never had issues when using the popup updater, whether on Win7, win10 or Win11, and I’ve been using streamfab since it first came out.

Sorry, once again I was expecting too much.
I expected to go to https://streamfab.com/download.htm to find the latest downloadable version, but I obviously should have realised that I should have searched for it on the forum page.
Pretty obvious too, I guess, that SF (the company) wouldn’t want new users to download the latest version from their website, but would expect them to know that they should look in the user forum too - oh, hang on, if they’re not users as they’re only just downloading for the first time, they wouldn’t be able to access the forum.
I guess some users have just got used to making excuses & accepting the shortcomings.
