:)hi all, dont know if this is the right place for this but here goes, i have a jvc dvd player and a panny blueray player, when i play any original dvd in the jvc player you never notice a layer break it looks seamless, but playing original dvds in the panny you do notice the layer break, so my question is when i burn my dvds with imgburn can i tick the seamless option instead of the layer break option and will the burnt dvds play ok in the jvc dvd player, not fussed about using the panny for dvds. ps. meant to say i would be using verbatim dvd+dl discs. thanks in advance. pps. this is a great forum for newbies like myself.

Well the only thing I can say would be to try it and see. ImgBurn also gives you a selection of spots to select for the layer break where it would not affect the movie as well. Test this out as everyone uses different DVD players and it would be sometime till someone with the same as you would be able to reply. Then again how can someone reply that would have the same DVD player when you not post the model # of the DVD player

Agree with AGJ, this depends on whether or not your player can handle seamless...I'm guessing it can.
You'll have to try it. If it fails you're only out 1 disc anyway.

It'll take the laser just a bit longer to refocus when going from L0 ---> L1 and whether or not this is noticeable will depend on your player,
but you don't want to create a layer break in the middle of an action scene.

Your best bet would be to click on the Preview Selected Cell and take a look.

thanks AGJ and maineman for the quick replies, yep meant to say in my post that the jvc dvd players model number is an NX-F3 which upscales dvds to 1080p does do a pretty good job of it too. i'll try your suggestions out on my next burn, as you said maineman it might only cost me 1 disc, i'll post back my findings and let you know. thanks again. flashgordon. :)

Especially with Full Disc, UNcheck the box that says Remove Layer Break in DVDFab Common Settings. It is on the Protection page. I doubt a bad layer break choice caused a burn failure though. Attach the imgburn log from the session where you got this failure. Have you tried the disc in a player?

hi all again, copied the movie 2012 to my hard drive with dvd fab using the full disc mode which seemed to go ok for burning to a dual layer disc, then went to burn with imgburn and when it asked for to pick the best layer break position i think it came up with 5 or 6 positions but didn't show any best position, none of the stars at the bottom were highlighted, i proceeded any ways and started of ok but a few minutes after "the cycling tray before verify" stage i got an error which said "failed to read sector 1976339 and sector 1976340" reason L-EC uncorrectable error. if someone could help me with this i would be grateful. the log is below (i hope) thanks in advance. flashgordon.ImgBurn Version 2.5.1.0 - Log

sorry about the half post a little earlier signals, dont know what happened !! finished the post and posted the imgburn log (i hope) just unchecked the remove layer break in dvdfab settings, do you think it could have possibly been that which caused the error? i also have nero 7 installed on pc might try a burn with that, think i'll recopy the movie first though with me unchecking the remove layer break in dvdfab settings. unless there are other suggestions on this problem. its weird anytime i burn using the dvd 5 compression it seems to burn fine. thanks in advance. flash.

Are you doing other tasks while burning?

This almost looks like a bad burn or a defect in the disc
Does the disc play ok?

Did you use Full Disc Mode?
Did you attempt to alter playback order of any of the titles?
If you're going to try it again, try Clone Mode

Clone mode may not work due to the FAT32 filesystem on the E: drive. The burner needs a firmware update, shows LSY2, latest is LSY7, (dated 2006!) you can find it here: http://drivers.softpedia.com/downloadTag/Sony+DW-Q31A+Firmware+update

Do this carefully and follow Sony's instructions. Disconnect from the internet and do not multitask when flashing new firmware.

hi all again, yes it was full disc mode and no the disc doesn't play, tried it in three dvd players, i was disconnected from the internet and i wasn't multi-tasking, havn't tried another disc yet but could try the firmware update that was mentioned if some kind soul could tell me how to install it, i can download it to my desktop but wouldn't know what to do next :eek: thanks in advance. flash.

Be very careful, if done incorrectly it can turn your drive into a doorstop. Some firmware comes as an executable file that installs it, some requires an additional program to do the job. I suggest you go to the Sony support website and see what they say for instructions. That is a pretty old drive. The link I posted for you will let you download the firmware, not sure about how to flash it on your particular drive but the link may have instructions.

hi again, updated the firmware to LYS6 from the medion website (its a medion pc that i have) medion recommended that firmware and went to burn 2012 movie with imgburn again but when i get to the layer break window again it doesn't give me any option to change it, i think the blue star at the bottom is the best position but its not giving me the option to use it i didn't carry on for fear of getting another coaster dual layer disc until i posted back here, think this is a strange one ? thanks in advance. flash.

I'm not sure what's going on here, but we need more info.
What OS are you using? Could you please post the specs of your pc or the model #?
Do you have sufficient space on your internal hdd to rip a movie to?

I'm wondering if you can use Img build mode and create an .ISO file and burn from that.
Problem is, you can't do that on a FAT32 hdd.
In build mode, Img will create an .MDS file. This contains the layer break info.
This way the proper location for the layer break is set...no choosing by the user
To burn the file, just open Img and select the .MDS file and you're good to go.

Is there a specific reason you're using FAT32 and not NTFS?

hi again, i'm using windows xp home edition sp2, the fat32 drive on my pc the E drive is actually the recovery drive, my main drive is the C drive which is NTFS,which has 78GB of free space, sorry about the confusion. now the good bit, had another go burning 2012 again a little while ago using imgburn this time i set the booktype from DVD+dl to DVD-ROM in the settings and it WORKED!! it still didn't give me any good or excellent options to highlight on the layer break screen just about 6 average gray stars so i just highlighted one of them and started the burn and hey presto!! now i dont know if changing the booktype did the trick or updating the dvd drives firmware did it or maybe both, or it might even have been a bad disc, god knows but it works. have watched sections of the movie on my pc and everything seems fine, just need to try it on my dvd player now. just a quick question about windows xp sp2, do yous think i should update to sp3 ? a bit wary of doing it now everything seems to be working. thanks in advance. flashgordon. :)

In my own opinion I would update to SP3, because when they develop programs they do not do it on computers without up to date software,and if you are missing some sort of key component that would be installed from the update your programs will not work correctly.
Choosing to install updates is totally up to you.
