DVD not Writable error message

Hi All,

Trying to burn an ISO image created by DVD Fab to a double layer DVD -R disc. I am receiving an error that the " Media inserted in Drive D: is not writable".

DVD burner is a Philips DVD +-RW SDVD 8200
Media I am using is Philips double layer DVD -R 8.5 gb 8x.
DVD Fab 7.0 (just upgraded and registered)

When I look under my computer the drive is recognizing that the disc is a DVD -R. The manual from Dell for the burner says it can burn double layer DVD -R. I have tried multiple discs from the stack. In the past I have burned single layer DVD using this burner, DVD fab and single layer DVD + R. When I try to burn this image using the DVD +R single layer, DVD Fab says "Media Inserted in Drive D: is single layer".

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

tried using IMG burn still not working?

I installed image burn and now I am receiving a message that the disc is not empty? I tried using a single layer DVD + R and img burn correctly tells me that there is not enough room on the disc for the image.

Image burn can correctly identify that the discs are DVD - R and that there is 8.5 GB free space on the disc? But says next writable address is 0?

Even tho it is misspelled by fab software.

The only thing I can see that might cause a problem is the media.

As an addendum to this comment, I'd also like to add that you are wasting your time trying to write to a D/L -R disc.

Most modern burners won't write to those as the layer break on -R discs isn't software settable (as is necessary for D/L writes of video data).

At best, you'll get side 0 (1) written to, and no way any DVD player, computer or stand-alone, will be able to read the second layer.

ALWAYS use only +R D/L discs for DVD backup!! (S/L discs, +R or -R, there's not much to choose from - except the Brand - but ONLY +R for D/L writes).

As a further addendum, if you check the 'compatible media types' from the burn log you posted, you'll note that your write drive doesn't support DL DVD-R discs... only the DL DVD+R ones...

Thanks guys for your replies.

DC- yeah, didn't read the log thoroughly. Apparently the drive does not support DL DVD -R even though the dell site does say it does :( http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/P108544/en/spec.htm

Even more frustrating since I double checked the specs before I purchased my 25 soon to be coasters last week. Oh well, problem solved.

Any experience with the Verbatim DL DVD +R discs?

Verbatim DL DVD +R (especially once from Sam's Club x2.4 $38 for 50) are made in singapore (MIS) and are ones that most respected by members of this forum

I use them all the time they are top class, and also Verbatim S/L DVD-R

Yup, the +R verbs are the only way to go with DL media.
Look on the spindle wrapper (or look over user reviews if purchased online)
for the manufacturer locale.

First choice is MIS (made in Singapore)
MKM 001 (2.4-4X) and MKM 003 (8X)

Second choice MII (made in India)
Same MID as above and far better than the crapshoot with other media

I pick up the MKM 001 (MIS) at Sam's Club for about $42-$43/50 pk spindle...not a bad deal

My Sam's Club charges me a whole 4 bucks more...:D
I would think they'd be cheaper for me than you,
