Dear Dvdfab forum and users: I recently bought a LG WH10LS30, that came with a free Verbatim LTH disc. Now there seems to be a split decision of whether or not it is compatible with the drive (why a certain egg would package with them and not be, I don't know). I also purchased another spindle of the Verbatim LTH disc. My problem is that every time I burn a blu-ray to blu-ray, no matter what option (Full, main, etc), It will fail the first time using either VSO or Imgburn, but will work when I just reinsert the same disc twice for both burning engines. When I burn with VSO, no matter what speed I set it at, it will ask me what speed I want to burn it at (does not give the option of the actual speed of disc which is 2x). It will then fail the first time no matter what speed I choose. Then will spin the disc a little and give me a "failed to burn". I then reinsert the disc and it again gives me the speed pop up, I pick whatever random speed (seems not to matter). then it burns successfully at the right speed. Using Imgburn is very similar, except it does give me the speed pop up. What happens is described in the log. I have followed the guide on the forums to setup the Imgburn carefully to directions, setting everything at 2x speed. It will keep getting a power calibration error and proceed to a I/0 ERROR, with it saying it was due to power calibration. Though for some reason it will work okay when I just reinsert the disc. I have tried deleting the drive in the device manager and restarting, something I read in another forum, but that does not work. Some might say this is not a real problem, and at first I did not think so, but it is starting to get to me and I am about to buy a different blu-ray burner: Pioner BDR-205BKS (heard it works with LTH). Keep in mind this happens every single time without fail and with any movie I use. Something to note is that for VSO it will gives the following speeds: Rec, fastest, slowest, 6x. Imgburn before I setup it up for some reason always wanted to burn at 6x, but second time around it will figure out it was only a 2x. I am using Verbatim LTH 2x disc, if the drive does not support these specific disc, I do not want it. Running: Windows 7 64bit, AMD Phenom II 955 BE (oc 3.8), 2 ATI 4850 CF, 4gb of ddr 1066, samsung spinpoint F3 1TB. Hopefully this is everything. Using software mode to decode because using gpu accelerator seems to miss up audio. Also everything is up to date, though this has been happening for a month, and even through different stages of updates, it still happens. It will produce the same error and process when I do this on XP and any version of dvdfab 7.0.3.0 up. I attached the Imgburn log, was not sure if I should of posted everything in there, but I thought this log was most relevant. I will post others if needed and any other information requested. seems to me that your drive is having an issue, possibly something related to compatibility.

LG WH10LS30 actually according to LG's website this drive is able to read and write to LTH. . I have the same drive but I did not buy it from the certain egg and I did not get a free LTH BD-R. I however bought them not knowing my first burner didnt support LTH. No biggy sold it on ebay and got the LG one. I personally have not had a chance to use the LTH BD-R's so I cant say I know what your talking about. Now the issue is what is causing the LTH I/O Calibration Error. This maybea firmware issue that didnt take did you run LG's tool kit see if there was a firmware update? I ask this cause the first time I hooked mine up (last week) It sent me to a firmware update. Second issue is could be the LTH BD-R's it is a newer way of making BD-R's and cheaper to produce so it could just be Verbatim is having issues with them. I will let you know when I get the chance to use mine and see what happens. Personally I would get upset also with the situation you have but I also would put up with it at the same time cause it saves money.

Interesting, I have the same burner and using the same discs and the same thing is happening. About 4 out of 5 times I get the power calabration error the first time. I close IMG and go back to DVD Fab and click burn again and have no problems. Not a big deal though. I thought it was because I'm using a sata drive hooked up through USB because my computer only has IDE internally.

I have this drive also but haven't had that error. But like unknown I haven't tried that type of disc. Sounds like either a hardware failure or a needs a firmware update. I'm jealous though unknown I haven't had any available firmware updates yet. I'm still on version 1.0 although in the About tab it shows CD1 : Model=WH10LS30 Version=1.0 then after that is CD2:Model=WH10LS30 Version=1.00 and only have one drive.

DHARMABummed69 it could be showing 2 same drives due to the Blu-ray drive and the DVD part of the sam drive?

Hadn't thought of that although I almost postive when I first got it a couple of month ago that it only had the CD 1 info and not the CD 2. What version is your firmware?

Back to my issue... My firmware is updated, technically there were no updates for the drive. Checking both using the lgupdate tool and checking their website (commercial). On the companies website I did not see no mention of LTH disc working on this particular drive, in fact I recall seeing someone actually calling LG and they said no. I am finding mixed results about this because other websites say these disc do work on this drive. I know for some it may not be an issue, but I spent what I considered a lot for the product and I want it working correctly. I am worried I will have future complications with this drive and that LG may not give it proper support. Anyone else out there with ideas to make this drive to work correctly? I am leaning more and more towards the Pioneer BDR-205BKS. This may be a question for a separate thread, but does anyone know if the Verbatim LTH 2x disc work on this drive? I am talking, no having to put in the disc 2-3 times, to make it work. I know what other sites say about the drive, I want to know if anyone personally tried that drive with those disc. Maybe another drive could be recommended. Thank you all so far who have helped or at least given input.

Does seem odd that Newegg would send you a free disc that isn't compatible with the drive it came with. Mine came with a free Quantum Optical that worked fine. You might call Newegg and ask why the disc doesn't work right with the drive and they might send you one that is.

The spec sheets use to read that it did LTH but if it didnt you wouldnt get a burn a second time. I tried with my external back in the day and it wouldnt even notice the disc was there I will find my owners manual and see what it says.

By searching incessantly online, the general consensus seems to be that LTH is an unreliable media disc as it not only has issues of compatibility with rewritable drives, but also with standalone players including the PS3. Because of this information and forewarning, I steered clear of purchasing LTH BD discs and settled on Optimum or Optical Quantum with no issue. Both are immediately recognizable by the PS3.

I have this drive and have been using the Verbatim LTH media with DVD Fab and IMGBurn with no issues. I have been using both for about 2 or 3 months. No firmware updates since I bought the drive 4 or 5 months ago and decided to try LTH when they came out and they have worked flawlessly for me since then. I've gone through about 3 spindles backing up my movies and data. I also bought the drives from the eggheads. I have two of these drives in two different computers without issues using LTH media.

Check the version of IMGBurn is all I can suggest. It's about the only thing I know is that I've been using version 2.5.4.0. I have not tried the latest version.

lth with lg burner

Using verb lth bd r disks has been an issue with the lg burner you mentioned. I have the one you have. In october this came up with another fab user. I replied that the disk drive would automatically reject the disk the first try but after the second time (seldom 3rd) it would accept. The back ups with the L to H disks are fabulous. Another member with more knowledge and experience suggested Img burn. At the time it didn't seem to matter. However after the updates to vso was made it wasn't a problem. Make sure you are using the latest fab version. I have recently gone to the verb 4x H to L which make as good as copies and not much more. Various forums here and elsewhere indicate problems with the lth not only with the lg burner but also others. I am sticking to the verb 4x bd r and passing on the lth for the same reason you indicated it seemed to be bothersome reinserting the lth disk. However I believe you will find the lg burner you have as good as any out there and you might want to consider going to the htl media rather than changing burners.

I'm having the exact same issue using verbatim BD-R's... 1st time fails, second time it works. Very frustrating. Going to try different media to see if it makes a difference, fail all time to get another burner....

I have the PIONEER BDR205 and have been burning JVC/TY LTH 25 gb blanks for over a year, no problems at all. Also burns TDK 50 GB BDRs ,faultless.
