Hey guys, Anybody have good settings for high quality video playback in the DROID X? Looking for both the DVD to mobile profile and the Blu-Ray to Mobile profiles. Please specify framerate, bitrate, resolution, and audio bitrate, etc. I appreciate your input! :)

The X's resolution is 854x480, beyond that I've been using the (with minor tweaks) to create MP4s that play just fine.

Thats a start - but that setting is configged to 720x400, and only 23.967 fps? I think the Drid X can handle a bit more. Really wanna see what this thing is made of :)

Well, change them and see! Don't change the framerate for a start but play around with the bitrate and the resolution.

Guys - Been fiddling around with this for about a week now....still not able to get video to playback smothly on the droid X - tried the regular Droid profile and been tweaking that from there. Any ideas?

Did it come with a sample video on it? if so off load it and see what it is made of.

Sample vid is MIA. Cant seem to get vids to convert over to DroiD x at all using the DVD Fab software. Choppy conversions at best.

Well, the distinct lack of interest shown on this forum for the Droid X shows how popular it is for what you are attempting to do. As general comments on this class of device, there are quite a few factors that will affect the "choppiness". Everytime you increase resolution. bitrate, etc, it adds to the amount of throughput required and it could be something just as simple as a slow memory card. You are going to have to do this yourself and this is the way I would go about it. start with a known working profile and I understand that you have this with Droid Classic profile and just encode a few chapters and copy it to the internal memory, not the memory card and see if it plays smoothly. Then increase the resolution and see the result.Then increase the bitrate and see the result.Then copy it to the memory card and see the result. If you start getting "choppiness" at any point, you will now know your bottleneck. Any good profile is usually a compromise between all the parameters and has a lot of permutations & compinations to try.

I will have a Droid X this week and will be working on a profile for it. I will post it in the New Profiles thread when it is done.

Thanks Signals...looking forward to a second opinion from a user of the device. Ive tried MANY different profiles using blueray to mobile....bluray to bluray then to mobile....800 mb/ps, just sterio audio....etc....all choppy. The latest one I did the audio was WAY out of sync.

The X seems to expand any content horizontally until either 1) the video touches the top/bottom or 2) touches the sides, and it does it very well. It will allow us to make lower resolution conversions (smaller files) that still look very good on the Droid. The ones I am testing are in the 60xX25x range. I tried something similar to the iPone profile and did not like the results. The wmvs seem to play more smoothly, and that is what the Motorola driver converts to if you run it through there (which I do not recommend).

Are the WMV's larger file sizes? I guess I haven't watched enough video to see if there is a lipsync problem, but the two movies I've converted so far looked good and sounded acceptable, or good to me.

An advantage to going WMV vs MP4? Smoothly? can you describe that? I don't see a jumpyness in my MP4

I used the iphone/ipod settings with the following mods:
-Cropping disabled (kept the 16x9 aspect with black bars top and bottom for 2.35 material found on DVDs)
-custom resolution 854x480.

File size ended up being about 1.2-1.3GB.

I am very interested in your thoughts/results on picture quality using the 6XX by 2XX resolution range.

Signals - Can you give very specific seettings that were used for succesful playback? At thos resolutions, I get choppy playback.
What codec? Audio bitrate? Framerate? Video Bitrate? Etc...

Signals - Did you find a good final setting for the Droid X? I know you were testign some in certain ranges...whats the final verdict?

Still working on it. Will try to post something later today. Killing all other apps and putting it in airplane mode seems to help the jerky playback but is not a real solution.

I have the Samsung Galaxy S - which should be similar to your droid

I ripped to 600x338 using h264 audiocopy profile and it looked great!
I limited the file to 700mb for a 90 minute movie and it still looked good

No stuttering on my phone anyway.

Be aware there is an issue going avi to avi with this profile (video stream is shortened, putting the audio out of sync) but seems to work fine for dvd rips.

Maybe this will get you through your current trip!

I have the EVO 4G and had the same issues. Play around with the bitrate. I even converted in PSP format. It played.

Here is a slightly different version of the earlier one. This one produces an output file that matches pretty closely what you get if you run the earlier one through the DroidX driver in Win7 (using "Send to.." in the context menu) but don't do that with this one, it shouldn't be necessary. Please report the results here.

But I must be dense. I took your profile and dropped it into the profile directory in the program, but the life of me I can't find the setting in the program. When I tell Ripper to output to cell phone, it selects Blackberry, and any drop downs I get do NOT show the Droid X profile. Am I missing something obvious?

FYI, I also tried the profile file in the Profile2 directory.

I also searched the forum for this issue to save people and time, but I can't find anything that says how to load profiles and use them.

I must be missing something very simple.

I have followed the posts on the Droid. There is reference to a Droid Profile but I do not have anything in my profiles folder for either V7 or V8. I have loaded every new version since purchasing DVDFab so I don't know how I would miss it. Please let me know where it is located. Thanks

Has anybody found a succesfull video profile setting for the Droid X yet that produces sooth playback?

I can not get the above xml file to work. I tried an older droid profile and got it to show up. This one is not recognized. When I double click I get the following error:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

Why has this thread dried up? I have friends with, or going to get the DroidX and looking for a good ripping software but there are no profiles for it.

Same here. I've spent all afternoon trying to get this to work. I have V6. I placed the "cellphone.DroidX.wmv.wma.xml" in the profiles directory and it doesn't show up as an option when I run the program ? ? ? ? ? ?
