From DVDFab Movie Server Team Supplemental tools for DMS. - FileBot -The ultimate movie and TV renamer

    FileBot

This is a tool for renaming media files that allows improved results when scanned by the DMS scraper (among other uses).

FileBot is really smart about matching your episodes with online episode info from sources like TVRage, AniDB, TheTVDB or movie info from OpenSubtitles and TheMovieDB. The naming format and folder structure FileBot will use in renaming your media files is extremely powerful and customizable but at the same time really quite simple.

Fetching subtitles has never been easier neither. FileBot will automatically lookup subs from various sources and intelligently match them to your media files. Just drag your files in and FileBot will do the rest.

The GUI is extremely efficient, it's all just a matter of 2-3 drags/clicks. But if you're the really lazy kind, you can automate just about anything using the fully-featured cmdline interface.

    All,
I have found that about 70% of my problems with missing posters or incorrect movie identification by the scraper are due to unrecognized or improperly formatted movie names. This is especially true for TV season or other episodic discs which will almost never work with aceptable results for the DMS. This can all be corrected using the tool that Juice discusses above if you have an existing library. For new titles you are adding, try renaming the file or DVD/BD Volume while processing in DVDFab using the naming conventions illustrated above, making sure to add the release year for ambiguous titles like "Robin Hood".

Going forward, we hope to incorporate some Filebot-like features into the DMS Manager (dms.dvdfab.cn) for ease of maintenance. Another change to the scraper logic that will help is that it currently selects by default the oldest movie of an ambiguous title; this will be changed to default to the newest title with the movie name in a future release. There is also some hope for a "DMS Mode" in DVDFab that will automatically address some of this, but there is no current plan or timing for such a feature (just the wish ). The inclusion of FileBot-like features (plus some improvements) in DMS Manager is much more a real possibility and will be under development soon.

This thread remains open for questions or comments.

I think I am being stupid, but I can't figure out how you got to the Movie and Episode Formats that are shown to edit them. Please explain. Thank you.

Sorry all....please ignore.....I was being stupid or just didn't play around enough.. Just in case someone else had the same problem, I found you need to 1) search for the match and then the display of new format in the right column and then 2) right click on the new filename format to open the edit.
