what exactly is the difference between dvd ripper and dvd video converter...
both appear to have the option to convert files into the same various output files... thanks in advance

I believe the difference is in the source file.

DVD Ripper is designed to convert the DVD Format into various outputs to designed to be played on portable devices, etc.

Video Converter on the other hand is deals with wma, mpg, avi, type files and converts them to the same type of outputs to be compatible with your portable devices.

In addition, Video Converter does not decrypt (remove copy protection from) DVDs or Blu-rays (or anything else).
