ISO to Hard Drive to Blue ray player?

well thanks for everyone's help, i will use Blu-ray copy to back my movie up on my hard drive, then use handbrake to convert them to a mkv file and finally playing them off my external hard drive on my tv using a wd tv live device.

I am not trying to be rude, but you obviously need to have more understanding of the terminology & concepts, eg a H264 encode can be ISO, BR Disc, DVD Disk, MKV File, AVI File, MP4 file.

H264 refers to the video encoding and again can have varying parameters in all of the above formats.

Then you have the audio encoding side of the equation.

And then what the device will actually support side of the equation.

Yes, the forum is the place to ask questions but it is not a place for handholding for those that are not prepared to do a little research and learning themselves.

You have to start doing what all of us here have done over the years, try and research. All it costs is a little of your and your computers time.

Sunny, this user does not just want to play an ISO on his PC so your comment is not really useful.

Please try using DVDFab Blu-ray Copy to creat an ISO file for your blu-ray movie, then install DVDFab Virutal drive to mount the ISO file and play on your local hard drive or external hard drive with a blu-ray player software like powerDVD.

You can also burn the ISO file to a blank regular DVD or blu-ray disc, then play on your Sony BDP-S470 Blu-ray Player to see the result.

You obviously need to do a fair bit more learning about what you are trying to do. You are mixing file formats, encoding standards & various other terms in the incorrect fashion.

I suggest that with the level of knowledge that you currently appear to have, you would be better of spending a month of learning before you attempt anything.

ok when you compress a your blu ray movie onto your hard drive what type of file is it? is it still a ISO or H.264?

because this device says it plays full 1080p

Read this about the Asus before purchasing:

MKV container support is there (but no detailed specs), no disc image playback, no DTS-HD audio, lots of things missing. It also apparently has trouble with high bitrates (1080p) in many formats. If you are a videophile, pass on this one. If 720p is OK, give it a try.

It looks like you have a couple of problems with your Sony BDP-S470 .
.ISO is not supported as a container.
Additionally, NTFS is not supported as a file system.

This means your stuck with FAT32 for your WD HDD and that you're restricted to a file size of less than 4 GB (actually 4 GB - 2 Bytes)

Read the manual that came with you Sony Blu-ray player to know if it able to play ISO from a HDD using USB.

my goal here is to decode a dvd and back it up on my hard drive as a iso like normal but then transfer that to my external hard drive and hook that up to a blue ray player and play movies that way...is it possible?

i have a Sony BDP-S470 Blu-Ray Player and a western digital 1TB external hard drive.
