"ever" is a very long time. you should be careful and diligent.

However, so far, as best I can tell, the only Sony standalone players that have cinavia processing activated via firmware are the x80 and s90 based series. I believe your 5000es uses the same firmware as the s350 & s550. I have loaded & tested firmware 026 (the newest USA release) on both models s350 & s550 and they both work fine and remain cinavia free. I would expect firmware 026 to be free of cinavia in your s5000es also. But, I have not tested that.
Firmware 014 (for the S1000es) is also cinavia free.
But I don't figure that guarantees the next firmware release will also be clean of cinavia, so be careful out there . . . .

    Intelp4,

I have a Sony BDP-S1, there first model (2005) they've been updating it ever since! The last up-date was this year! Its still Cinavia free!

When you go to there website for an update, just open the files and it will tell you what is being D/L to your model!

All my up-dates have all stated it will still be able to read BD-R, BD-RE, and I never had any problems to this day!

With a 2008 model you should be OK, don't take my word on it, but you can talk to someone from sony on your up-date and find out!
