No issues tho on Optimum discs at all tho, wheter they are 4X or 6X. As long as you have the burner write setting within your disk speed requirement, it doesn't matter.

I don't know what the glenns is talking about with backward writing... it is a mute point if your settings are set up so they won't try to write faster than the disk will allow... Verbatim disks are very good, but they are priced higher. I have used Verbatim both as a regular DVD copy (always) and have tried the Blu-Ray disks as well. Just a higher price, and I have had a couple coasters on Verbatim disks back when I had a Sony burner.......Bought for their sale price 1 time and tried, then went back to Optimum 100%.

NewEgg is classic to put disks on sale for 1 week, then off until they replenish their stock. I have learned to get them in quantity when they are on sale, but if you aren't sure, or you have never tired them, then don't go crazy until you feel comfortable with them..
Thank you Dcc1048!!! Again, you are very wise. The Optimum have burned well. I'm 3 for 3 so far with zero coasters! I'm very happy and excited. I agree with everything you said regarding disc quality and burning with proper settings and speeds.
I was surprised to know that my 3 discs have apparently burned with the VSO burning engine. My Imgburn normally launches when I make a back-up of a DVD but when making a Blu-Ray Imgburn doesn't launch. Weird but maybe not to you.... Thanks again

    chaostoday,
I'm throwin' in with the votes for Verbatim. Used a lot of these discs over the years in LG, Sony, Pioneer and Brand X burners, with more than acceptable fail rates. Any failure is an expensive thing, but there is a rate that most people can accept. If you're interested, Amazon has verbatim inkjet-writable 50gb 4x discs in a 50-disc spindle for $143. Less than $3 a disc, who knew??? I remember spending $12 for one (when they finally came down to a price that wasn't pornographic).

BD-R LTH (Low To High) for those talking about LTH disks as in post #11 this is why theirs trouble with these disks on older blu ray players & recorders.

BD-R LTH is a write-once Blu-ray disc format that features an organic dye recording layer. "Low To High" refers to the reflectivity changing from low to high during the burning process, which is the opposite of normal. The advantage of BD-R LTH is it can protect a manufacturer's investment in DVD-R/CD-R manufacturing equipment. Only modifications are required to current equipment; no investment in new production lines is required. It is believed this can lower the cost of disc manufacturing.

Old Blu-ray players and recorders cannot utilize BD-R LTH; however, a firmware upgrade can enable devices to access BD-R LTH.

Just so you know LTH blu-rays (Low to high) is not quite a standard blu ray they are wrote to backwards and a lot of drives don't do backwards unless their firmware is updated to use these cheaper made on production line disks.

Some drives will only play them others won't write to them.So if you make your collection on these disks they may not play in other players because of this i think it's something i will not use because they are cheaper in price.

I saw from your other thread and this one that your luck has been great with these. I am just really interested in knowing if you see a difference in the batch we both get. Mine just said it was shipped today from Edison, NJ. That means I should see them at the latest by Monday and I will know by Monday evening if they will work for me using my LG burner and Imgburn for back-ups. I'm convinced if they work for you that I will have success but there has been so much hype surrounding Optical Quantum and the changes they have made to their disc's.
    thanks again!

There are a lot of different kind of Verbatim discs..the "Value" or "Life Series" ones are terrible. The best ones are "DataLifePlus" which come in a clear spindle with a small white label on them. #97339 are the single layer inkjet printable BDRs that I referenced in my previous post, those are the ones you want.

Verbatim 97339 are by far the best. Never ever had a single coaster or bad burn at any speed with any software. So far they're simply perfect. The only downside is they're impossible to find on shelves in brick and mortar stores, and depending on supply and demand the price online fluctuates between $70-$100 for a 50 pc spindle.

I just don't want my first BD blank purchase to be a waste of money. Not looking for anymore coasters in my life. I have burned over 1000 Verbatim DVD+R (MCC-004-00) discs with not one coaster. Their quality has always been excellent. I have heard many mixed reviews on the Verbatim BD-R disc's and even worse reviews of their LTH disc's.
I had heard excellent reviews on the Optical Quantum 4x disc's again until recently when reviews started indicating that they had changed the disc's and they were more flimsy and packaging changes started saying "Value" on them.. Do you think this is due to the 6x disc's being out now by the same company at a higher price? Now the 4x are value???

I think this has to do with the brands of drives out their and what their firmware works with. Some firmware updates allow the drives to work with different disks.

I have seen my Pioneer drive go from working to a few brands of disks to most disks. Some seller internet sights tell what disks work with what drives and at what speeds.I think all drive company's should tell you this also before you buy their drives so you will know and not have to make coasters.

Also Ritec can make different quality of disks sometimes a 4 x disk will work in a drive but only if you burn at 2.5 speed and I seen one type of disk like inkjet printable disks work in some drives but the same drive won't burn their regular disks or the cheap Memorex disks made by ritec.

My Pioneer 12X drive burns optimum gold (8x) 8.5 gig disks but only at 2.5 burn speed at one time they burned at 10x but now I can only get 2.5 x out of their gold disks and i couldn't play their silver disks at all.

I think they changed to a cheaper disk or their manufacture changes and makes them different..So their are going to be different results with different disks and drives and also burning speeds.

To sum it up you need to see what works in your drive and what speeds then hope they don't change disk manufactures.I solved this problem by using a media player so I don't have to burn any disks anymore it also solves the Fox Cinavia problem.
