Crashes when reading dvd

You should be able to click Cancel as soon as the it pops up scanning box then use the send/save info function. Fab doesn't have to open the dvd to send the info files I'm almost positive.

In this case (with v8.0.8.5) that would probably work, but be aware that the Qt versions often crash when cancelling the opening scan of a DVD. Some of the Info files will be missing if the scan is not completed, but the IFO files and some other data will be sent, better than nothing for sure.

I would suggest putting DVDFab in "low stress mode": in Common Settings, 1) turn off the read ahead cache 2) turn off auto-start and auto-open of the Preview window and 3) as a last resort, turn off PathPlayer. This must be done with no disc(s) in the optical drive(s).

I still think you should try an older version of Fab. Worth a shot anyway.
Most of us "old-timers" keep a few older versions around for exactly this reason.

The older major versions Fab 2.xxx -Fab 7.xxx will install in separate follders and run independently of one another.
You can also install and run different versions within the same major releases, eg., Fab 8.xxx, but you will have to manually modify folder name/location to do this.

Often, an older version of Fab will work where recent releases fail.

One of my all-time favorites is v.4120.

If you have not done so, fill in and submit the crash report that I see behind the dialog box on your desktop.

Can't remember if it's suggested in Maineman's Tips on Troubleshooting Analyzing/Ripping dvds (if it is ignore this post) but if all else fails open common settings with the problem dvd in the drive and click the "send info files" and include a link to this thread. Or click "save info files" and place in a zip file/folder (not sure if the forum allows rar files to be attached) and attach to a post in this thread so the devs can take a look at them. You have to click "Go advanced" and then click the paper clip icon.

Yeah, this happens on occasion...Fab simply stumbles on a particular disc.
It's happened to me too with some TV series discs.

Like many, I'm not thrilled with v. 8085 and I see you've tried the most obvious, first step and disabled PP to no avail.

Mainman your right all the way....... I opened VLC and played the movie ,hit pause opened vso inspector ..

I scanned the dvd with NO ERRORS..


.. so now back to the original problem I run dvdfab the newest version and put my dvd in it and it starts to analogize the dvd and then DVDFAB crashes.

so far this in the only dvd it happens on.. <<< I attached the log..>>>

I is NCIS Los Angeles season 1 dvd

I am using windows 7 64bit
intel E8400 Processor
6 gigs of ram

I have Magic Iso installed that creates a virtual drive.

Any surface scan errors means the dvd is bad ??

This comes up every now and then and is unfortunate; ultimately just a needless cause of frustration and loss of time for the user.

You cannot scan a copy-protected disc with VSO Inspector...not by itself
(same goes for Nero CD-DVD Speed which is a much more comprehensive utility).

To check for a "bad disc"...

Pop in the disc > open Fab Passkey
(Just download Passkey from right here on the forum....still available as freeware)
and now run scan on
VSO Inspector (freeware)

or
Nero cd-dvd speed (still available as freeware)

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cd_dvd/dvd_tools/nero_cd_speed.cfm

You can also open the disc with a software player such as VLC, hit play, stop, but do not exit the player.
Now open VSO Inspector and scan.
However, this method is not nearly as reliable.

You are not contradicting me you are contradicting your own log .

The log says the disc can not be read.

Playing and copying are like apples and oranges. Most defective dvd will play but can not be copied.

I understand that, what I am asking is why all my dvd's Originals give me the "error" HOWEVER they copied successfully and played on pc and DVD Player. (any I have a Tobhiba newer model) and this is picky as hell..


But this one is playing on my dvd as I am typing ..... I am reading that VSO can NOT decrypt the CSS copy protection and this is why it reads ERROR.

I will return this dvd and get a replacement, If your correct all will be good.

I will post the results.

Usually does.... Try cleaning/polishing and give it another go...
