“File is corrupt or unsupported” message playing mp4 on Sony BDP-S5200 BluRay Player.

I just wanted to clarify a few things.
My main reason for posting about the .mp4s not playing on my TV is to inform the developers of this . That way they can possibly fix the issue. Apparently my Sharp Aquos TV & cathobie's (the OP) Sony BDP-S5200 BluRay Player won't play an .mp4 created with DVD Ripper. I have tried several settings & none have played.

The .MKV format in DVD Ripper seems to play with almost any settings I've tried with it.
Even the same or very similar to the .MP4 settings that won't play.

I satisfied with using .MKV (Maybe even prefer it).

Some people want .MP4 because that is the way they like to store their videos on a harddrive. They are the ones that need this fixed.

If I feel the need for an .MP4 . HandBrake has worked fine on all tests .
I would recommend using HandBrake for creating an .mp4 from a DVDCopy rip.
Until DVDFab fixes the problem. For those with units that can't play the DVD Ripper created .MP4's .

I will be posting the text files from MediaInfo below.
I had already converted a couple of .mkvs with AC3 audio.
One with settings similar to the one you posted for .MP4.
One with AC3 6 channel.
Both .MKVs play fine on my TV .

I also converted a .MP4 with MPEG-4 with that being the only setting different than what you posted for .MP4.
As expected this one doesn't play on my TV.

Then an .MKV & .MP4 with h.264 (x264 in MediaInfo) .
I used your posted settings .
The .MKV plays on my TV the .MP4 doesn't.

The dvdfab_internal.log is for the two I did this morning.

I did use AAC for the audio in that conversion.
IIRC I just used the default settings .
The specific message my Sharp Aquos TV gives is this:

Audio codec not support
Video codec not support

I could convert one with AC3 but I doubt it will work any better.

Just to note this my TV plays AC3 from .VOB files with no problem.

I think all the .mkvs I've done were AAC & that works.
I will try a .mkv with AC3 also.

I uninstalled DVDFab 10 as thoroughly as I could .
Then reinstalled it.
I tried an .MP4 with 90312 settings .
It still didn't work on my TV but did work on my LG BD player.
I then did an .MP4 as Default ( selected the default button in the lower left of the settings window). It now had the same results .Would not play on my TV but would on my LG BD player.
So I guess the uninstall fixed something but not for my TV.
I've even downloaded .mp4s of a couple of TV shows off the internet.
They play fine on my TV as did the ones I created with other software.
I don't know anything else to try to get DVD Ripper to create an .mp4 that will play on my TV.
For me .mkv will be fine. I also have other software that works if for some reason I need an .mp4 .

I tried your settings in a .mp4 & a .mkv as close as possible.
The .mkv played on my TV but the .mp4 didn't .
There are a few differences .
The Audio looks almost the same so I can't figure out why the audio on the .mp4 didn't play. I have had files that only played audio or video . When there wasn't the correct codec for the other.

Did you use the .MP4 selection that is just MP4 ?

I tried the MKV Passthrough & it worked fine just like the regular MKV did .

There isn't a MP4 Passthrough for DVDs.
There was one at first but it disappeared when I tried to use it.

I saw the your Sony is a couple of models up from the OP.
My BD is an LG & TV is a Sharp. They appear to have the same problem playing the DVD Ripper converted MP4s as the OP.

In my test with the conversion to Audio only the .MP3 is the only one that played on my TV.
The .WAV did play but the audio was slowed down & kind of distorted.

Yeah that's exactly how it was made. Keep in mind my player is an S5500 and the subject is the S5200. So similar I just wanted to see if they share the issue, obviously not.

Yes the mp4 was made with Fab 10.0.4.6 AC3 audio.

I'm still testing & wanted to ask:
Was the .mp4 you created done from a DVD compliant folder ripped to a harddrive ?

That's what I've been testing with to create the .mp4s I've tested .
As well as other files.
This is from a retail DVD I ripped with DVDFab 10.

The only ones that won't play were done with DVD Ripper.
Odd thing a .mkv with .aac selected done with DVD Ripper played fine.

Right now I'm testing just ripping the audio.
The .aac failed but the .mp3 played .
Every .mp4 file from DVD Ripper plays fine on my computer.
So did the two audio files.
So the problem appears to be that the codecs internal to my TV & LG BD player can't play the .mp4s with the codec DVD Ripper uses for its' conversion.

I have a SONY S5500 and you know I had to try an MP4 on a thumb drive. It not only plays I'm impressed how good it looks. Good to have you here cholla we'll benefit from your experience.

I have no plans to update my LG BD610 blu-ray player . It is 2011 so pre-Cinavia detection . Updating the firmware can change that & start a player to detecting Cinavia.

On to the thread topic.
I have tried multiple rips to .mp4 with DVD Ripper .
I have yet to get a .mp4 created by DVD Ripper that will play on my TV or LG BD player.

My last attempt was to an .aac audio file & it would not play either.
I will probably test again after some new versions of DVD Ripper are released.
For now DVD Ripper .mp4s will not play on my TV or BD player.

My solution for now will be to use other software converters if I need an .mp4 from a DVD.
