DVD Ripper Problem Ripping DVDs - simply stalls

I have DVDs from approximately 5 years ago that I am trying to rip. The process starts out fine, and then, nothing. Time to complete goes to zero, and the process just goes into limbo. Looking for any advice.

I have tried it with CUDA and with just SOFTWARE decoders/encoders - no luck. I have also tried it with Turbo CPU and without.

    • There are no error codes produced.
    • Log file attached (the other two log files did not have anything in them for the activities I tried and failed, so I did not attach)
    • Using DVDFab 8.1.1.2
    • I am using the DVD Ripper process and using the standard PS3 profile - I made no changes to what DVDFab suggested.
    • I have tried several disks and I have the same problem.
    • I am running Windows 7, 4Gb RAM, NVidia chipset.

    Graphics Chipset :
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

    TV Series Vol 1 Disc 2 ?

With several of my older TV series stuff I had to revert back to DVDFab version 5.3.2.0 to get them done.

Removal of new protections may not be available yet in the free version of DVDFab (HD Decrypter)

      Hi kisertn
Please try the latest version found here http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=14547
Also please do not convert from your drive.
First save it to your HDD without compression.
Then open the hard drive file and use that for your converting.
Doing it this way saves wear and tear on your optical drive and is also faster.
      Hope this helps

        Hi,

Is this done using DVDCopy and then Video Converter? I have both licensed, butwanted to be sure I understood correctly. Also, I am in the process of running DVDCopy now but I saw no option to execute without compression, unless that simply happens as I copy it to HDD.

I tried installing 8.1.1.9 but it would not launch soI had to revert to 8.1.1.2.

          Hi kisertn,
Could you give us more inform about "I tried installing 8.1.1.9 but it would not launch soI had to revert to 8.1.1.2."? What about 8119?
What's more, you'd better to clone the disc to HD as iso format and then use DVD ripper.
          Thanks

            Hi kisertn
This is done using DVD Copy and then using DVD Ripper.
The option for compression will be on Fab's main screen toward the bottom, you will choose either DVD5 or DVD9.

Ok, this I did and I am getting the same problem.
              • I first used DVD Copy to copy the two sections I wanted to a folder on the HDD.
              • Then, I used DVD Ripper to attempt to convert one of them using the PS3 profile.
              • I am attaching the dvdfab_internal.log to this post.

It runs for awhile and then simply stops, just as when I run DVD Ripper directly on the disc.

I am going to try and install 8.1.1.9 again tonight (in the next hour).
                • When I installed it this morning, it simply would not launch.
                • I reinstalled 8.1.1.2 and it also would not launch.
                • So I then uninstalled 8.1.1.2, and then reinstalled it, and then it launched.

Tonight I will uninstall 8.1.1.2 and then install 8.1.1.9 and hopefully it will launch. I'll post back later when I do.

                  Hi kisertn
Could you try to install the newest version again and post any information that you can that terry5 asked for .
Also your logs say that you are using Cuda please turn it off and use the software settings.
Open Fab click the Click the Green at top right corner of the DVDFab screen, and open Common Settings > General >A/V Codec, put a check in Disable all GPU codes and make sure they are set to Software, restart Fab and try again.

                    1. I did uninstall 8.1.1.2 and then installed 8.1.1.9 and it worked fine. (meaning 8.1.1.9 is now launching and executing fine)
                    2. I will make the changes and use Software only. However, it should be noted that Iwas originally using Software only when i encountered the problem. I switched to CUDA in an attempt to try somethign different. But, will switch back to Software only and re-run.

Check this link kisertn, if the audio is defaulting to 5.1 Multichannel @ 448kpbs it will slow down and stop encoding but the timer will run forever. It just won't work like that.

Thank you, I will check this. I just had a failure and yes, it was defaulted to 5.1 Multichannel. So, I will now try with Dolby ProLogic II at 160kpbs.

My apologies for not posting back sooner. Between work, and the oddities of what I am experiencing, I have been delayed.

When I installed 8.1.1.9 it did work. However, I am trying to determine the best conversion settings for these movies so that I end up with the best possible looking and sounding files that will play on my laptop as well as my Playstation.

When I used the default Playstation profile, it works. But the picture leaves something to be desired (imho).

I then changed settings (I did not track exactly what I did) to be two-pass, and to increase framerate and bitrate. I have little idea as to what I am doing, but I recognize jerky video, or video with jagged lines as bad and am playing with settings to improve.
                          • I am doubtful two-pass does much.
                          • Framerate I am unclear about, and I can't seem to tell what the source material was (which I believe is what I would set it to).
                          • Bitrate I understand is significant but I have no idea where is optimal versus wasteful.
                          • When I choose deinterlace I seem to get fewer jagged lines.

But, in the end, when I change some of these settings, it would do the same thing and simply stall at some point.

At this time, I need to sit down and document what settings I am using, and the results I get from each (meaning does it stall out or not). When I can complete that, I will post back. But, big change was that when I went to 8.1.1.9 and used the same profile, it began to work for me.

                          -Neil
