BD Ripper (3D Plus) MKV to VOB

When ripping BD's I normally rip to PS3hd which is perfectly good quality for my needs. I've been 'experimenting' with MKV which streams well over a WDTV Live hub, but the PS3 mpeg seems to be a better quality picture - All subjective of course) --- As the PS3 will not stream MKV, I have been using a well known freeware program to convert the MKV file to VOB and this has worked well with a few exceptions. So, I've been trying out the DVDFab Converter to try to convert the MKV file to VOB Passthrough to try it out on the PS3, sadly without any success - It imports the MKV file and then when I press start ..... Nothing at all happens, it just sits there doing nothing. It has'nt frozen, it just is'nt doing anything -- MKV to PS3 converter seems to work ok (but only with software in the AV codecs selected -- It fails if CUDA selected) --- --- Any help or suggestions would be welcome -- Thanks

You would need to use the original BD and the DVDFab Blu-ray to DVD module to create DVD output and then follow that up with DVDFab DVD Ripper using VOB Passthrough. However, this is a convoluted way to go about things.

The PS3 will happily accept M2TS files with H264 video as long as the audio is AC3. For good quality, use DVDFab Blu-ray Ripper against the original BD to create your file. If your BD video is already H264 (shows you when you bring it up in DVDFab to choose the title) and you want original BD quality then there is a custom profile available on the forums that will only modify the audio to AC3 but you will end up with a 30-40GB file.

      M2TS Files For PS3

      Complication,

Thanks for your reply -- I carried out a BD rip to M2TS with (I think) the AC3 audio track -- The file played fine with VLC media player but when streamed to the PS3, only video was present with no audio --- Log file as below --- Also, I'm totally unsure as to how to use the profile editor that you mentioned --- Any further help appreciated --- Thanks

Sorry, you cannot use M2TS passthrough and get the audio converted to AC3. Use one of the other M2TS H264 profiles that has AC3 and select a high bitrate (I use 10000).

there is a custom profile available on the forums that will only modify the audio to AC3 but you will end up with a 30-40GB file.

I have tried out the M2TS rip and it seems to work fine -- Re the above, could you point me in the right direction to find the above profile please? And if possible, let me have an 'idiots Guide' on how to implement it? I think I'd like to try it out

The following thread has the profile:

            DTS to AC3

You will have to read elsewhere on the forums for how manual edit of profiles works. I will tell you that there is a DVDFab directory created under your user Application Data that would allow you to place the profile and have it remain even after installing a new version of DVDFab. You must completely close and then restart DVDFab for it to pick up a new profile.
