What you’re asking is basically a matter of opinion. My advice to you is experiment find what you like best. Just use a couple of chapters so it doesn’t take up all of your time, use brightly colored fast action sequences to assure smooth playback. What you’re currently using should work pretty well.

Best settings for ripping dvd to mkv
Just bought the DVDfab ripper for windows and has started ripping my dvd's. But I need some help with choosing the best settings.
I use the mkv profile
Currently in the video settings I am using
codec : h264
Resolution : same as source (720x 398)
Frame rate: same as source
Encoding method: CRF 18
Video quality: High
bit rate and output size is locked
Deinterlacing: should this be on or off? (all my dvd is in pal)
preserve chapters: on
Audio: passtrough
What about the video edit? something to change there?
At first I tried to put the encoding method to 1pass and the bitrate at 1800 but then I read that it was better to use the cfr at 18 - 20
Anyone who can give some advise?
