You really would be better getting on to the WDTV forum as there will be users there with more experience with that device.

You have already been told how to do this !!!!
Read my "Best Practice: DVD to Mobile" thread and follow the steps in it.
In the "New Profiles" section there is a "Samsung" profile that I have developed that many WDTV and other media player users think works great.
Download, install and use that at least as a start point.
We can give you no further advice than that as this whole topic is very subjective and what is fine to some is terrible to others.
You just have to try it and base it on YOUR OWN impressions

Maybe you should give some information on the title you are trying. A PAL DVD should have 720x??? unless the frame size on the DVD is smaller. What is the closest size in the list that is less than 720?
I'm not sure what you mean by burly.

How do i get it default of 720 x xxx for pal? i have a list and thats the only frame size close to it so i click it. it that just what id does from the start if i dont chnage anything and it checks the sourse?
i've just compared my rip to the oringal and found my rip to a little burly than the dvd, is this just normal as i am compressed it to about 2gb from a 8gb source?

thanks for replying by the way.
I've done some samples and for some reason the .Mp4's dont show up on my wdtv but others that i havent made do, is there any reason for that?
i did about 9 samples, i found the acc to be good quality on my pc but poor on my tv so i've gone with audiocopy, and i think i can see a slight better picture with h264 over divx and mkv.
i have gone with 1500 bit rate, same as source framerate, 736 x 416 (is this the best to use for dvd's?) and avi.h264.audiocopy.avi.
does a 2-pass effect the quality by much?
does this sound about right? or is there anything you reconemd as you pretty much have the same setup as me.
Edit: i have just got your samsung profile and trying that now also trying generic.mkv.h264.audiocopy.

No... But I would try the generic.mkv.h264.audiocopy profile for the WDTV starting around 1599 bitrate, 2 pass for the WDTV.

i'm just doing some samples now and comparing quality, is there one codec that is known to have a better quality and size compression for ripping just a dvd?
Is mp4 / mkv mainly for ripping a BluRay?

Do "Main Movie" only ISO as apparently the WDTV does not support menus.

Try ripping main movie as ISO file and then give the WD TV a try for playing it back
