Always get lag in audio

It's definitely becoming pretty clear that folks are not all running into the sync problems. But I can say for certain it isn't content related as I've tried the same content on 7.0.4.0 vs 6.2.2.0 and I see the problem in the new version but the old version works perfectly. I've done that on several different DVD sources.

FWIW, I've seen it reproduce on WMV and H264. Haven't tried others (yet). My main use is to create Xbox 360 playback which requires me to use WMV to get 5.1 sound on the Xbox.

Realnoize, have you tried 6.2.2.0? It would be useful I think to confirm that you also see it work in the older version.

I have just finished 6 hours of conversions of various sources with v7.0.4.0 using the Generic xvid+MP3 to AVI container. These have been played back on PC with VLC, a no-name portable DVD player with a SDHC card slot (where I would have expected problems) and two other players with no sync issue. Not sure why you are seeing the problem but it is not universal from the evidence in this thread. A/V sync can often be content related.

OK, I encoded Deja Vu with Version 7.0.4.0 generic.mkv.h264.audiocopy and generic.xvid.avi.audiocopy profiles, Win 7, 64 Bit.

Played them in WMP, VLC and on 2 media players that I have connected. No audio sync problems at all.

What is your target device that you are attempting to play these files on???

Depends. I have many devices hooked up at home and I set up a server that contains all my movies & music files to be accessed on the network. I use TVersity to stream all of it on the network, but even if TVersity transcode every format on the fly, some devices I have can't use the transcoding functions and thus have to get the files directly from the server. So I'm trying to convert my DVDs to a format that will play on most devices, which is either Divx, h264 or WMV.

And all of them experienced serious audio lag issue, whatever the audio format selected. Audiocopy, mp3, same result in the end.

I haven't tried mkv, will do tonight to see if I get the same problem. Although I won't be able to play them on my phone (which only play DivX, h264 or WMV natively), but will be able to transcode with TVersity for my other devices. Anyway, I'll see if converting to mkv instead solves the problem.


Is it me or I have the strange impression that the problem might not be on the audio part, but mostly on the video part? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but when using "audiocopy", it is simply a copy of the audio track from the DVD, right? So basically, it is the EXACT same thing as what's on the disc, right? So if video and audio don't match, if audio is an exact copy of what's on the disc, then it's the video encoding that fails to do the job properly.

If that can help someone, I'm running Window 7 Ultimate 32-bits, 2Gb of RAM on a Athlon 64 x2 3800+, with an NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT.

While I'm thinking about it, can this be caused by rendering the result file on a different drive than the one DVDfab is running from? I don't think so, but still, could that be the cause? I'm rendering the file straight to a USB external drive (which is quite fast BTW) and never had such problems with any other applications (I do video editing with Pinnacle Studio 14 and all my files are stored on this drive too and never experienced any problem). I'm just asking here... I Will also test this tonight.


I have a huge library of DVDs (200+) I want to backup and put on my server to access it all on all my devices at home, and DVDFab seemed to be the perfect tool to do that. The first ones I tried were "Top Secret" and "Insomnia". And both of them had the same a/v sync problems, whatever the profile and setting used (divx, h264, wmv).


I'm curious to know if anyone has those issues on XP or Vista... or if it is only related to Windows 7...

I've got the same problems with 7.0.4.0 and I am running Windows 7 64-bit. Note that the version (6.2.2.0) I used previously did not have the audio lag problem. The new version has had the lag in everything I've tried to convert so far.

mkv.h264.audiocopy was the only one that worked on a PCH............Brian

Hey Brian, MKV container is the best anyway. Keep everything in MKV, and if you want mp4 or something else for your mobile device, use mkv (file) to mobile. File to mobile in a Fab is a very well built, solid module. I love it.

Mp4, avi, and if I remember right wmv, all gave me sync problems that got worse as the movie went on. This is on a a-110 PCH. You could ff to the last chapter and it would be way off. mkv.h264.audiocopy was the only one that worked on a PCH............Brian

No sync issues on mkv, however MP4 as a totally different story. A/V sync issues has been an on going battle on here for a long time, and the last to versions of DVDfab have made it to epidemic levels on my end.

I am using the standard AppleTV defualt settings and going from a region 1 DVD to a DVDFab folder. Results in an MP4 video with small a/v sync issue that progressively gets worst towards the end of the file. I have files that have an audio that is an easy 2 seconds behind the video.

I am using Vista and not Windows 7.

I am running a test of Version 7.0.4.0 on my standard test DVD which is very susceptible to any sync problems (Deja Vu, R4) and will post results.

I am using Win7 64 bit, not 32, but it may help the developers localise the problem if any.

Will report back results when done.

I know, but no one seems to have found a solution so far. It seems the latest version has a problem with installs running Windows 7 (32 bit, mostly, as I didn't find anyone mentionning the 64 bit version).

Anyone knows if we can download an older version of DVDFab? Someone mentionned in one of those threads that there wasn't any problem in Win7 with an older version (6.xx)

Just bought the DVD to DVD package and the DVD to Mobile package. I know someone would say that it's my fault for not having tested it properly before, but I only tested the DVD to DVD part, which worked perfectly, so I was expecting the same of the DVD to Mobile part...

There's a problem that bugs me a lot. While the DVD to DVD function works flawlessly, there is a BIG problem with the DVD to mobile option.

I'm running on Windows 7 (32-bit) and everytime I try to copy a DVD to a file, whatever the file, whatever the profile, whatever audio format, I always end up with a file with audio that lags behind video.

Tried every option I could think of, every format, etc... Some end up a little bit "better" than others, but every results are still far (very far) from satisfactory.

Even by simply copying the AC-3 audio track from the disc, it ends up lagging behind. And yes, I always use the same FPS settings as the source.

Is there something I don't get? Am I just dumb or this software has a serious bug?
