After posting this thread:
I figured it's possible to play HEVC and UHD BD disks even with a 980Ti, which does not support hevc hardware decoding using the I7 6700K.
The steps to do it, in case anyone is in the same boat:
1. Turn your iGPU on in BIOS.
2. Plug HDMI cable from iGPU to your display so it becomes active.
3. Set iGPU as primary display
4. Play your files in your Nvidia/AMD hardware.
The final step now is to be able to output HDR metadata.
No matter all the combos of settings I've tried, even with Windows 10 Creators Update HDR switch turned on it won't go into HDR mode.
The colors are washed out all the time.
Tried leaving Nvidia settings to let software decide. Tried HDR on and off in windows.
Tried YPbPr 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 with 10bits in Nvidia menu and nothing.
I can confirm HDR works with Resident Evil 7 and with MPC-HC plus MadVR.
Is it possible to properly output HDR with DVDFab Media player?
