You are correct that that is the default (I believe) but only for 5.1. He was using 2.0 which is what I always use. That's why it looked oh so familiar to me.
Personally I think people get too hung up on bitrates, both audio and video. With regards to audio, when mp3s were really hot you would often see articles about "blind" tests they would perform on people where they would play samples at different bitrates and ask which was the worst. From what I can remember most people couldn't tell the difference at 128kb/s or better. None could tell the difference at 192kb/s on up. I haven't seen any of those tests in awhile. Probably because there are so many different methods of coding audio now and they already proved their point with mp3s that most people's hearing sucks.
