Recent Problems with StreamFab

The Staff is aware of the recent problems you have reported and been discussing concerning download failures and low quality of video from many streamers. Most of these began around June 1 when the suppliers made upgrades to their DRM encryption. Needless to say, StreamFab requires this data to work properly and has not been able to acquire it for some streams.

We are sorry for the frustration we know you have experienced and began taking steps to correct the problem soon after it began. The Developers hope to have a solution ready for testing soon and ready for release to you in 1-2 weeks.

Many have asked if a particular problem can be attributed to this DRM change by the supplier sites; generally you will find internal error codes 306 or 308 in the drmDownloader log file if it is the DRM issue. This is what the Developers are working on.

We regret this inconvenience for our users and thank you for your continued feedback and patience. The Staff is working diligently to provide the high performance you have come to expect from DVDFab products.

The Streaming services update the DRM encryption again, we need some time to work for the new solution, and I will update the status in the post if have any good news.

Maybe i have a hint for your developers.

I installed the Widows 10 Modern UI App Amazon Prime Video and changed the settings to download in best quality. While I downloaded one Episode of a series, which StreamFab only downloads in low quality, I spotted the place where the download went with Progmon. In the Amazon App the downloaded Episode was playing in 1080p. So I looked at the downloaded video file with a text lister and discovered a WRMHEADER which revealed info about the used copy protection, including an Amazon Server URL.

If you already know this, it is OK, if not it might help you.

Just a bit of a follow up to this, thanks again admins for posting this. Thought I might (hopefully) be of help to someone and post my own experience , what I've seen the past couple weeks. Note that I am using Streamfab for WIndows, so YMMV

What works (usually):
- Almost all providers will let you download content uploaded prior to June 1
- Disney+ has no problems that I've seen. Even updated stuff comes across just fine (albeit at 720p, but that's a known 'issue')
- Amazon:
Aside from the known 480p download issue, the following should (in theory) still work
+ Purchased and prime video (assuming it's not on any of the major channels)
+ AMC+
+ Britbox
+ Motor Trend
+ Acorn
- Apple
- HBO - I haven't seen anything fail here


What doesn't work (usually)
- Hulu - Anything past June 1 fails
- Paramount - Anything recent fails
- Amazon Channels
- Discovery +
- HBO
- Paramount +
- Netflix is hit and miss. Sometimes you can get older content, sometimes you can

Again, YMMV, and if you're running into issues, make sure to post logs in the appropriate forums!!

Many of you (Kid Joe, dillon77, twhiting9275 + others) have been very helpful to your fellow users during the past few problem-filled weeks. I offer you the thanks of not only those you have helped but the staff as well for the time it saved us that could be devoted to other things. I can assure you all that the developers are working hard every day to make StreamFab a tool you will be glad to have.

After reading twhiting9275's post, I did an experiment. I can rule out that Motor Trend via Amazon working. Content before or after 1 June isn't downloading. Looks like the purchased streams are locked out via Amazon as well....dang, had hope! Posted the log below to verify for you but I doubt it shows anything the staff already doesn't know.

You may be getting videos that haven't been updated to the new DRM. Anything not updated to the new DRM will still download.

Do you have the names of any titles that won't download with HBO Max because I have never had an issue with something failing to download even added after June 1. Occasionally if I have multiple items queued they may all start to fail but completely closing StreamFab and re-opening has always solved the issue. But just for a few examples, I was able to download In The Heights which was added 6/11, the entire first season of Hacks which had the last few weeks of episodes added in June, and the entire first season of Starstruck which was also added on 6/11.
