TL/DR:
The latest Pluto module update is:
1) saving some incomplete downloads as complete,
2) completed downloads are about 2/3 the size as compared to SF 5.0.4.8,
3) downloading inconsistent resolutions for tv show episodes, and
4) is no longer downloading subtitles
The story:
I was originally going to post to say that PlutoTV "seems" to be downloading episodes of any given show with inconsistent resolutions. For example, I previously downloaded one particular show (14 episodes) and all but one episode were downloaded as 1280x720 (the oddball episode was downloaded as...something different...lesser resolution...sorry I've been adjusting to a new job and my mind is all over the place.
Anyway, one week later I re-downloaded the same episodes (forgetting I did it in the first place), and the resolutions were a mixed batch -- but the one oddball episode from the first time downloaded as 1280x720 the second time, so I replaced it and moved on with my life.
That was using SF 5.0.4.8 (or possibly 5.0.4.7, again the memory fades).
This past Sunday I also tried a different show, getting the first four (of five) seasons, and the resolutions were still all over the place:
Season 1 - 10 episodes at 1280x720, 4 at 854x480, 1 at 640x360
Season 2 - 9 episodes at 1280x720, 6 at 854x480
Season 3 - 7 episodes at 1280x720, 7 at 854x480, 1 at 640x360
Season 4 - 10 episodes at 1280x720, 5 at 854x480
(Hang on, I'm getting to the crux of the problem now)
Today I'm using SF 5.0.4.9, attempting to get Season 5 of that show (as well as try my luck to get 1280x720 versions of the episodes that did not download in that resolution, and here's the problem:
For Season 5:
6 episodes did not finish downloading but were saved as though they were. By this, I mean a 25 minute episode was saved as around 8 minutes or 15 minutes, and the video glitches toward the end
Out of 14 episodes, 8 were 1280x720 (2 were incomplete downloads), 3 were 854x480 (2 incomplete), and 3 were 640x360 (2 incomplete).
For Season 1 (attempt #2):
All 5 episodes I attempted to get a second time were 854x480 (meaning, 1 was "upgraded), and all appear to be complete downloads.
For Season 2 (attempt #2):
Of the 6 episodes I tried to re-acquire, one of the episodes downloaded at a lesser 640x360 resolution (it was 854x480 on the first attempt) - the rest were all 854x480, and 2 of the episodes were "incomplete" downloads
For Season 3 (attempt #2):
Of the 8 episodes I tried to re-acquire, all downloaded at 854x480, but 3 of those files are "incomplete" downloads.
For Season 4 (attempt #2):
Of the 5 episodes I tried to re-acquire, all downloaded at 854x480, but 2 of those files are "incomplete" downloads.
During all this investigation, I also noticed that the episodes downloaded with SF 5.0.4.9 are about 2/3 the size of the episodes that were downloaded with SF 5.0.4.8. Random examples: S03E01 of the show in question originally downloaded with a file size of 305MB, but is now only 199MB under 5.0.4.9; S03E04 was previously 303MB, and is now 197MB. I have not changed the settings -- they are being downloaded as MKV (FFmpeg).
Lastly, SRT files are no longer being downloaded under SF 5.0.4.9
