After seeing the release notes for 6.1.2.9, i realized that they are doubling down on this very flawed approach.
This was my reaction:
Aside from the fact that not everyone wants the highest bitrate possible, the biggest point against this is because sometimes, StreamFab thinks a certain option is the best available when it actually isn't. So they are implementing something that simply doesn't work properly. Why do that when letting us analyze individual episodes solves a ton of issues!!!???
Case in point:
I queued up The Witcher Season 3 and Muscles & Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of American Gladiators Season 1.
I forced StreamFab to analyze season 3 and selected the following for The Witcher:
This is what i selected for Muscles & Mayhem:
After everything downloaded, the report said this:
Which resulted in these files:
Notice how The Witcher S03E05 has Atmos 5.1 Audio
So StreamFab is telling me that The Witcher S03E05 has no H265 HDR and no H265 SDR but it downloaded it in H264 with Atmos 5.1.
It's also saying Muscles & Mayhem S01E02 is only H264 and S01E03 only has AAC 2.0 Audio.
My next step was to, you'll never believe this, force analyze each problematic episode! I know right? Shocking! Why would I try to do this? Could this be the solution to many of the StreamFab problems? Let's find out, boy and girls!
Here are the files i got after that:
Well what do you know... It's a beautiful day in the neighbourhood boys and girls... Would you be mine?
Turns out S03E05 of The Witcher was available in H265 HDR. So was S01E02 of Muscles & Mayhem. Also, S01E03 did have Atmos 5.1.
But check this out... Now The Witcher S03E05's audio is AAC 5.1!!!
Like wtf? It just downloaded Atmos 5 minutes prior!
So in the case against "Best Quality Available" & "1920x1080 If available", the prosecution rests.
